"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned by a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure." Christopher McCandless
I've never had the desire to make the pilgrimage to Denali but I understand it.
The story of Christopher McCandless inspired me in unfathomable ways. It's not a story for everyone, maybe because they aren't ready for it yet. But it is a story for people who hope and seek something bigger, something more important, something we know is out there.
The symbolism of Magic Bus just being there, being attainable, was always just a comforting fact for someone who dreams.
Now its gone, taken away because instead of having their own meaningful journeys people just tried to recreate Chris's.
Now its on a flatbed, now its gone. Taken away for our own good, taken away to quell the human need for adventure. Safer to stay in your houses and dream but never do.
The point was never to get to the Magic Bus, it was to find your own... somewhere out there... into the wild.
