best freshman dorm in your opinion?
This video gives a decent look at all of the frosh dorms. It should be noted that the room shown for each building is not representative of every room in the building.
Andrews Hall is probably the best freshman dorm you can get. It’s on the Pembroke campus (North) so it can be a tiny bit inconvenient if you’re running late to class or forget something, but the rooms are pretty large, especially if you get a “dingle” (two singles that have been combined into a double). Not to mention the closets (some of which are big enough to be walk-in). Also, the walls aren’t cinderblock, which makes for a cozier feel. You also get a sink inside your room, and mind you, this makes all the difference.
Being in Andrews also gives you access to the study lounge on the first floor, which is a quiet space with a black and white printer where you can do work. Beneath the residence area there is, of course, Andrews Dining Hall, which is home to probably the best-tasting food you can find on campus. There’s salads, really good pizza, make-your-own foods (which have super long lines, but they have different types of foods each day), and other stuff. It’s also nice to live there when there’s good brunch being served on weekends.
I also really loved the common lounge on each floor - it’s how I met some of my closest friends! There are also two usable communal kitchen in the basement, convenient for random baking times.
Metcalf and Miller are also really nice. They do have semi-private bathrooms, and they are literally attached to Andrews. They’re also spacious and in general nicer looking, with plenty of communal spaces. I think it was recently re-done, actually.
This being said, the other dorms aren’t like bad by any means. Keeney and Wayland are close to the Ratty and the Main Green, which is super duper convenient. MoChamp and EmWool are right next to/above V-Dub, which can be nice. I know people who lived all over campus and they really enjoyed their dorm.
(I was jealous of Keeney’s lounge though...they have a really really really nice communal kitchen and various empty rooms for just hanging around.)
