for some reason the stream last night kinda,,, turned me off of techno’s character and I think I know why???????
i feel like if ANYTHING were to turn someone off of techno’s SMP character. it would be last night’s stream.
the first part is that SMP!Techno had no respect for the wishes of his fellow revolutionaries. instead of letting them enjoy their victory and being more quietly anti-government, SMP!Techno’s first instinct was to destroy everything that his friends had just worked so hard for. this comes off as needlessly cruel to me!
It’s different with Wilbur, though! SMP!Wilbur's intent to destroy everything only came after he was broken; he had some sympathetic moments pre-fall and at most points it was played as him going off the deep end a little bit.
TL;DR SMP!Techno's face-heel turn(-ish maneuver) comes off as needlessly cruel and out of character to me, where Wilbur's betrayal felt like a natural extension of his arc.
