You are a mermaid princess from the kingdom neighboring Fishman Island. Having recently came of age, your father and King Neptune agree to your union in marriage to Prince Fukaboshi to ensure the continuation of both royal lineages through your offspring.
Though you have heard nothing but praise of the young prince, you are horrified.
You weep and thrash for days, refuse all food, and on one occasion shout at your father that you would sooner be wed to a human, a remark that earns you a slap across the face. Your sisters do not help, whispering among themselves that shark mermen in particular are especially rough in their coupling, and wondering with a mixture of fascination and dread how many eggs a six-meter merman can fertilize inside a mermaid without breaking her.
When the day comes for your family to deliver you as a wife -or as you name it, as a sacrificial offering- you drag yourself forward with reddened eyes and a weight of sorrow so heavy that your scales, usually so bright and beautiful, lose their shimmer.
But everything changes the moment you see the prince.
Huge indeed, with a tail capable of raising at least twenty meter waves, and a mouth full of pointed teeth that stammers pathetically when it opens to greet you. His hands reach out towards you, in a clumsy and failed gesture that he has rehearsed a thousand times, to offer you a beautiful coral the color of your eyes.
You smile.
He is just as nervous as you are.

He holds you so softly against his chest, trying his damndest to seem more confident than he really is....
He's never mated before.
He is so damned respectful towards mermaids and fish women... He adored his mom and still mourns her. He is ready to die protecting his sister if it is required. He is so damned responsible. So guided by the belief that coupling should only happen if the consorts love each other, that he never really worried himself over the matter… until now.
"Just kiss her," says his father briefly when asked, "listen to the sounds she makes and let them guide you. Your body will guess the rest".
And so he does, fingers tilting your face to his to prevent you from hiding again because you are so scared. You moan when his lips meet yours, and he is so focused on you, on the beautiful sounds you make for him, so delighted by the way your body reacts to his attentions, that he does not realize that his tail moves on his own, lovingly curling around the shape of yours.
