Earlier today I saw a post on Facebook of a woman making a complaint to bravissimo about the models they use to represent their brand. Her complaint was completely valid as she pointed out it made her feel uncomfortable walking into the shop and fitting rooms seeing skinny white women plastered everywhere, white skinny women modelling a brand that is meant for fuller cup women. This is not to say that smaller women don’t have big boobs, this is to say that there are women out here like me rocking a size 18-20 body who fits in bravissimo lingerie with little representation, I’m fat and disabled and comfortable in my own skin! Shocking right?! The woman asked bravissimo why they don’t use larger sized models and their first reply was something like this “we can’t find models who are plus sized with big boobs who are comfortable enough” Their second reply was “we apologise for the first reply, the reason we don’t use plus sized models is because we are not a plus sized brand and wouldn’t want to advertise that” okay so, they go up to a size 20 which isn’t amazingly inclusive but still they could use models between size 18-20 to show those sizes and what they would look like on a more plus sized body right?! Or am I asking too much? ALSO, that first response 😂👏🏻 come at me @lovebravissimo You want to see plus sized people comfortable in their own skin you have come to the right place, because me and a whole lot of other people on Instagram are out here working to fight to get marginalised bodies seen! So you can stop with your excuses. There’s so many wonderful POC, fat positive, disabled, chronically ill people etc on this platform that would happily stand in front of your cameras. Maybe you need to re think your branding/marketing? This has been a public service announcement. Thank you, goodbye.
