first day of recall training w/ eve
so today was my 16th birthday, and it was great one! we went to the locally owned pet store where i got eve from (which is like an hour and a half away) so i could get a lot stuff i needed for eve, and also so i could play with their birbs. i ended up getting a huge new cage, like 3x as big as her current one. along with that i got her harrisons pellets (we’ll be making the switch over from seeds, fingers crossed she likes them!), more treats and cuttle bones, some foraging parts/toys, and some new perches, including a pedi-perch and a big ol’ manizita branch.
my mom and dad also got me a featherbrite light, so me and eve should be all set for the future! the only thing now is to work in a lil more fruit and veggies into her diet, and to get some toy parts from feathered addictions, to make sure eve has plenty of mental enrichment and foraging opportunities.
tommorow i’ll be setting up the new cage and making all the changes, as well as posting pictures of the new setup! big shout outs to @flock-talk for providing a ton of knowledge and resources on parrotlet care, with out them i’d be totally lost and eve would probably be in way worse condition, and possibly even dead.
Hello all!
Welcome to my blog about my fully flighted American Parrotlet, Eve (prounounced e-vee). She is quite the explorative and curious fellow, and has a knack for nibbling stuff (including me). This is where i’ll be posting pictures and videos of her, and hope to get help and feedback on keeping her as healthy and happy as possible.
For those of you who care who I am, my name is Cameron/Cam. I’m a 16 y/o dude who does martial arts, specifically bo staff, and gets to travel the country competing in it. I’ve had Eve for half a year now, and even though we’ve had our ups and downs, I couldn’t be happier with her. Recently we started training again, and she is a really fast learner. I hope you all enjoy her as much as I do, and I look forward to being apart of the birblr community!
We got a late snowstorm last night but temps ARE on the rise. This character and I will be working on our first outdoor free flight this summer so stay tuned! WARNING! Do not try outdoor free flight unless you have complete confidence and trust between you and your bird. It is highly risky with an almost endless list of dangerous possibilities. There is always a risk that you could loose your bird.
I came across this really neat article that's all about the science of flight and the effects being flighted has on the brain! Some of the points in here are really cool!
(not trying to force anyone in to making their birds flighted just thought the article was neat, informative and a good source so please don't feel that I am forcing my opinion on you. This is solely for fun an interest purposes.)
