And yet, you came back empty-handed [from jamaica]? Doherty: "I wouldn't call the trip a failure, but we didn't write an album there—no. It was just nice to have some quality time together after so many years. We did see each other, of course, but always for short periods—usually during gigs or in hotels." Barât: "We even went to church regularly there. Just as we have a local pub back home, we had a local church." Doherty: "They have drummers in the church there, and since we didn't want to be voyeurs, we even sang along with the gospel choir (they break into a song in Jamaican Patois that I don't understand a single word of, and which lasts a full two minutes)."
