My theory is that the gifts that excite people most appeal to their THIRD function. Probably cos it's fun to play with, so you wouldn't necessarily indulge in those things supporting it yourself.
Es*j - Ne - Anything that *seems* like a great idea is gonna get them excited. Donut makers, pie makers, the new fancy whatever it is that'll be useless in a week. Hard to stuff up, but don't stick around for the fall out.
Is*p - Ni - Kinda deep stuff, like poetry. Arty stuff, movies, books... All that jazz. Just make sure you know what area they're into specifically. Hard to stuff up, their interests are usually pretty obvious.
En*j - Se - Stuff for the here and now. Food, soft stuff, mindfulness stuff or whatever. Encourage them to chill. Hard to get wrong.
In*p - Si - anything that is useful and stable or considered beautiful by the person. Useful could even mean movie tickets if they go often enough - you have to know the person here. Beautiful could range from jewellery to comic books. Can be hard to get right. If you're not sure, settle for socks I guess.
E*fp - Te - stuff that does stuff. Similar to the es*js, except it has to actually be useful. Like a book, some tools, a new camera, idk. Easy to stuff up based purely on the fact that you don't know what they've already got. If in doubt, appeal to their last function cos it's safer. Socks and books it is.
I*fj - Ti - anything to feed the mind. Books on weird topics, educational stuff, brain puzzles. If you dont know their area of interest, skip this and appeal to low Se, cos if you stuff it up they'll be kinda confused why you bought them a book on chicken taming.
E*tp - Fe - Cutesy stuff. Stuffed toys, sentimental items, food... Whatever. Hard to stuff up, even if they're acting like 'WOT, WHY WOULD I POSSIBLY WANT THIS STUFFED LLAMACORN?' Could appeal to low Si/Ni but might insult/depress them if it's black socks and super obvious you didn't know what to get them.
I*tj - Fi - like emotional stuff. Romantic music, books about how much you love them, stupid things with no purpose that are just romantic and possibly sparkly. Hard to get wrong, even if it makes them cry 😂
