HIII i don't know if you've posted about what i'm gonna ask you about already but i am very fond of your "k reads desu nooto" series, especially as someone who aspires to learn jpn this year (and as a former translation studies major) so i find it really helpful... anyway i was wondering what you think about the scene where misa draws a scheme of how the shinigami eyes work for light to understand. in english he delivers a dry ass "you're pretty good at explaining" but in japanese he gives a far more thorough compliment (The quality could be better. My Bad)

so essentially i was wondering what your thoughts are regarding the viz translation vs. what light actually said. this came to me in a dream (= i was skimming thru the manga in rioplatense spanish and he complimented her explaining AND drawing skills in it so i was like Hey hold on he's far drier than this in english. what did he say in japanese.)

結構上手いじゃないか　それにわかりやすい hey, that's pretty good. and it's easy to understand, too.

the first sentence is phrased as a question (lit. "hey, isn't that pretty good?" but that doesn't sound very natural in english lmao) which makes it sound more like either surprise or encouragement or both, at least to me. and the それに is "and"/"moreover" so he IS complimenting both her drawing and explaining. it's definitely nicer in japanese i've never noticed :0 VIZ THE THINGS YOU TAKE FROM US…

Piano Man animatic storyboard- Lulia's segment

@flowereypainting since i got this whole idea from your Lulia drawing, i thought you'd be interested to see the progress !

I'll explain since i know my storyboard process looks messy( well its supposed to be).

So first Lulia pushes away Ronbo who was in the previous segment

And she makes a toast, tinkling her glass with a spoon and leading into ''Bill I believe this is killing me''-- all while a spotlight is on her, our dramatic queen ofc

Then Jerafina is watching Lulia and daydreaming with a goofy expression but when Lulia makes her toast, Jera gets sad, understanding what was just said ''as the smile ran away from his face''

SO SHE RUNS TO LULIAS SIDE

And says '' well i'm sure that you could be a movie star''- and it segues into a sequence of Lulia as a starlet, red carpet, cameras flashing, the whole deal!

Lulia replies ''If i could''- and it cuts back to reality- ''get out of this place''- burying her face in her hands

AND THEN SHE RUNS AWAY(jerafina chasing)

Straight into Tiffs arms, who is alarmed when her singing\humming is interrupted( Tiff is the singer for the ''la di da'' segments)

She almost drops her mic but Jerafina catches it and continues the singing\humming while Lulia has a good cry, Tiff catches on to whats happening though she was initially surprised, she sympathises

They both sing to soothe her and finally in return, Lulia pulls them into a group hug!

I wanted the theme for the whole animatic to be the habiticians comforting each other in small ways, though they are lonely people <:)
