ALA #FundLibraries Campaign Kicks Off for FY2020 | American Libraries Magazine

The White House released its FY2020 federal budget proposal, and for the third year in a row, the president recommends eliminating IMLS. Visit ALA’s action center to contact your member of Congress and sign up to receive action alerts at strategic times as the #fundlibraries campaign progresses.

“ALA is calling on library advocates in every congressional district to contact their representative and ask them to support federal funding for libraries by cosigning “Dear Appropriator” letters to fund the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) program. The more signatures ALA gets on these letters, the more likely it is that funding for LSTA and IAL will be restored. The deadline for signatures is March 28.”

Federal Budget Includes Big Gains for Libraries

#FundLibraries advocacy succeeds at protecting vital programs

We have crossed the finish line for funding in 2019! The spending deal (H.R. 6157) has been signed. We are so grateful for all of the library advocates who made this possible!

When the new fiscal year begins, IMLS will have an additional $2 million towards grant programs and research. Grants funded through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) will continue to receive level funding. Libraries will also benefit from programs administered by the Dept of Education, many of which received increases that will open doors to #FundLibraries in schools.

Federal library funding remains stable as FY 2019 appropriations process moves forward - District Dispatch

Months of advocacy by ALA members across the country has produced the first positive results for FY 2019 funding as the LHHS Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee voted today to provide level funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services at $240 million.
