‘A Life of None’

The kind of dark, brooding, and equally booming rock music that Fearing create on their debut EP 'A Life of None' has been sorely missing in recent years. 

The Oakland based group, who's members come from various backgrounds in punk and hardcore (most notably Creative Adult), came together out of a passion for the one thing all old (indie) punks love.....Goth. With a self-described sound as “sort of like Asylum Party mixed with Sisters Of Mercy—maybe with a slight Nick Cave edge to it,” Fearing have carved out a niche of their own…

The gloomy post-punks bring what you’ve come to expect in their short existence, brooding Goth Rock where guitars are the tools of choice. Opener “Behind the Mask” finds vocalist/bassist James Rogers bellowing in & around ringing guitars, propulsive bass, and an organically cold beat.

Second song, and lead single, “Beyond Light” sticks to the aggressively dark template of chiming guitars, thick bass, and wallowed out vocals. "A Way With Me" is a pitch perfect slice of gloom rock, blackened yet easily danceable. The guitars are loud, the bass pronounced, and the subtle synth buried in the track's final third is a thing of beauty. 

The EP closes out with the morose "Another Night" which lurches along in a menacing way that frays the nerves but doesn't stop you from wanting to slow dance. “Another Night” is further proof that you can’t put a price on the tried & true combination of pronounced bass, spidery guitar leads, and singing from within a cave.

'A Life of None' is four solid Goth Rock songs that don't try and reinvent the wheel, because reinventing the wheel in 2017 is fucking stupid, so give into fear and submerse yourself in gloom laden perfection.

FEARING are back with a gothly new single titled “BLACK SAND” in the run-up to their forthcoming end of the year EP of the same name. 

The Oakland based post-punks (James Rogers - Vox/Bass, Brian Vega - Guitar, Mike Fenton - Drums, RJ Phillips - Guitar) are a busy lot, having already released an EP earlier this year (the equally death-rocking ‘A Life of None’) and have shown no signs of slowing or depreciation. In fact, Fearing have carved out quite the niche for themselves and deserve to be recognized as a full fledged entity as opposed to being a band whose individuals are saddled with the “members of....” tag. 

“Black Sand” is everything you want in a Fearing song, vocal brooding courtesy of Rogers with loud guitars, a meaty bass, and big drums. There’s a dusting of acoustic six string that adds just the right amount of gothic romance to the gloom-rock brutalism the group deal in. The whole thing plays sweepingly loud, with newly added textures sprinkled in amongst the low end grog....

Need some (more) Goth in your life……good because Philadelphia’s Night Sins are back to satiate your need.

“Enamored and Nailed Shut” is a pitch black slice of post-punk built on the backs of rising synths and dance floor mindedness. Continuing their ascent from London to the lake and back, Night Sins have found their groove on their latest single. Sin’s mastermind Kyle Kimball fine-tunes what the project has done so well on “Enamored...” and the results couldn’t be clearer. Just take one listen to the pristine synth & guitar lines that cut through (as well as that legit Send Me An Angel-like mini-solo during the track’s final third) and you’ll have no choice but to finally give Night Sins your fragile attention.

Once again, it’s good to be goth……

Con Funeral party il Teatro in italiano da sold out a Liverpool

Domenica 26 Maggio presso il Mossley Hill Centre è andato in scena Funeral Party – A Play in Italian, piece in lingua italiana liberamente ispirata al film “Death at a Funeral”.La versione è stata riscritta su misura per gli attori coinvolti e per un’efficace resa sul palco di un teatro.Gli attori sono gli allievi del corso Teatro in Italiano, promosso dalla Dante Liverpool e organizzato e diretto da Andrea Castellini, attore e regista, che ha curato anche la regia di questo show.“Il corso – ci spiega Andrea – è partito ai primi di Novembre 2023, per un totale di oltre trenta lezioni e approfondimenti extra sull’arte recitativa. Lo spettacolo al Mossley Hill è stato un grande successo. I biglietti sono andati sold-out. Vista la grande richiesta è probabile che faremo una replica anche in autunno”.Grande soddisfazione quindi non solo per Castellini, ma anche per gli attori che lui stesso ha formato: Ivan Fantasia, Sergio Gomez, Martina Delfino, Rossella Romita, Jacopo Bregolin, Livia Venturi, Mariangela Cassino, Pasqualina Romano, Iuliana Ghemis, Maggi Green, Victoria Biagi, Tommaso Mercantini, Monica D’Onofrio, Fabio Raspante.La trama: è il giorno del funerale di Eddie. La moglie e le figlie stanno facendo gli ultimi preparativi. Parenti ed amici si riuniscono nella casa di famiglia.
