There is more Ocean Unicorns to discover! 🦄🌈🌊
🤩As our second magical pick of this series - Swordfish, which 'sword' you will see way before the rest of the fish!
🪡 That's because their bills are extra long! Swordfish commonly reach 3m on size, up to even 4,5m and 1/3 of this length is the bill! They use it same as marlins, to slash and stun their prey!
🗡️ Different to other fish with elongated bills, swordfish weapon is a flattened oval in cross section, with very sharp edges. This makes them a dangerous opponent, even to humans!
🍛 Speaking of humans, swordfish meat is very popular in cooking. Fortunately their fisheries are gradually transitioning to more reasonable and restrained around the globe, resulting in their conservation status as 'only' Least Concern
🚀 Swordfish is popularly quoted around the Internet as reaching speeds of up to 100km/h. However, the source of that record is not exactly reliable, so their top speed remains elusive.
