I don't see a lot of people actually talk about the fungeon proper.
I think most people just think for the small cell Felix is sent to but the FUNGEON being an addition King Candy had installed supposedly just for Vanellope.
The Circus and clown motifs are signs added on top of the scary bleak atmosphere. It draws attention to the fact Turbo made his new persona to seem non threatening and FUN.
King Candy resembles a clown with his big round nose, rosy cheeks, silly hair and collar.
I wonder if he made these sign additions to the dungeon to make it somewhat nicer for a child to be imprisoned there?
We can gather it's King Candy's own design to a dungeon that may have existed in the games code before. The walls are sugar cube stone but the circus stuff seems hastily drawn in a way, that and King Candy is extra giddy to talk about the Fungeon.
What makes me certain though are the signs that I'm sure King Candy put up JUST for Vanellope.
It feels like a very out of touch way to make the idea of locking a child in jail a bit more... nice?
The Fungeon is such an interesting place to me I want to know what he was thinking if this was meant to put Vanellope at more ease if he ever did decide to lock her up. Hm.
