movies i recommend HEAVY
1. rushmore (wes anderson)
to me, it’s dead poets society if dead poets society were a comedy. soundtrack hits. i quote it daily.
where to watch: amazon prime
2. the secret life of walter mitty (ben stiller)
if you’ve read the short story, this is…. not that. the guy from severance is in it. probably my favorite movie soundtrack to date, very wes anderson vibey!
where to watch: unfortunately, it’s only for rent on youtube, amazon prime, and apple TV
3. repertoire (james acaster)
actually, it’s a comedy show, but it’s the best freaking comedy show i’ve ever seen. it’s trippy in an intellectual kinda way, you know? the whole thing is interconnected in the smartest ways. 100% recommend.
where to watch: netflix. note that it’s a four part series
4. enola holmes (harry bradbeer)
my FAVORITE. surprisingly, not a lot of people seem to watch it? not the people i know, at least. sherlock holmes’ radical feminist mother goes missing, and it’s up to his little sister to both find their mother and avoid being sent to finishing school. 10/10, the sequel is even better, i think. it’s very different from the books, but it’s amazing in its own right.
where to watch: netflix
5. 12 angry men (sidney lumet)
don’t let it being black and white turn you off. this movie is hilarious, existential, and one of my favorites to think about all the time. it’s old but so relevant and so fun to watch!
where to watch: tubi, pluto, youtube TV, or for rent on amazon prime (pro tip— tubi is completely free to use)
6. the house (edna walsh)
this one is on the creepier side, so be warned if you’re not into that. a stop motion movie that follows three different storylines involving the same house. freaky but also beautiful.
where to watch: netflix
7. klaus (sergio pablos)
‘b-b-but that’s a Christmas movie!’ AHHHH I KNOW I DON’T CARE I WATCH IT YEAR ROUND. it’s so funny. it’s so sweet. i sob like an actual baby child every time i watch it. and, look at it, God’s sake, it’s beautiful.
where to watch: netflix
