I don't know what it says about my family that I remember both my mother and my grandmother using this phrase. I don't recall a time when I didn't know that candy was dandy. So young that I had absolutely no idea what it meant.
Or why, reflecting on it now, were my mother and grandmother saying this phrase with such regularity? What was going on? Who were they talking about?
It makes me laugh.
I also have no idea if it's a Southern saying or if I just hear Southerners (often?!) saying it. If my grandmother was still alive, I would get her this needle point for Christmas. She would have loved it.
