encounters these days with the JOKER are few, damian himself has seldom seen the clown. the few times they’ve seen each other this year, damian remembers little of --- he remembers the chase, the anger & excitement that threatened to overtake him, but not the outcome, not the aftermath.

to find the clown in GOTHAM MORTUTARY is a surprise, like opening an old book chest to find a nothing but a pop-up jack-in-the-box. robin is here to investigate an unrelated crime -- but the flash of green hair in the dark is enough to distract him.

Joker leaves a voicemail on Roman's personal number, which don't ask how he got a hold of- "COME TO MY HALLOWEEN PARTY"

His finger hovers over the delete button. One simple push and the message would be deleted, but the same couldn’t be said of the clown’s attention. How the fuck did he figure out Roman’s personal phone number? The Joker was mad but he wasn’t stupid, and Roman didn’t feel like being the next man to earn a trip to the hospital. Fuck. He’d have to think this one through carefully.

    it had been a few months since jay 'kidnapped'' him. in that time jerome learned a lot. held a gun for the first time, practised shooting it (with varying degrees of success). escaped the police a few times. dug a bullet out of jay's leg. successfully cheated in a game of cards. it's been the most fun he's ever had. it dawned on him now, as he cleaned blood off the floor, that maybe this is what family was supposed to be like.

    he's helped jay in every way he can. thinks he's about ready to start some of his own stuff. "hey, jay." sits back on his heels, washcloth forgotten on the ground. his list isn't long. only three names. for now. "can you help me kill some people??"

“Summoned?” Roman’s knuckles whiten as he glares down at the colourful invitation held aloft between forefinger and thumb, almost condemning it to the shredder there and then. The audacity of that clown to think Black Mask was at his beck and call. He didn’t like the Joker and he sure as hell didn’t like Cobblepot either, even if there was going to be an open bar at the Iceberg Lounge. Costumes required. He rolled his eyes with a snort.

Sits down next to Jerome. Hands him a nice cold soda. Pats him firmly on the shoulder, gives him a little hair ruffle. "... I love you, kiddo."

    the can is taken and carelessly dropped in his lap for now. more important things to focus on. which would be shooting at his enemies. he's set on beating jay's record. they'd been taking turns after their second controller got stomped on during a particularly annoying boss battle (definitely not jerome's doing). even with the high score in sight, the game is momentarily forgotten when he feels a squeeze to his shoulder. looks back to jay, lips spreading into an bright smile as his hair no doubt gets messed up.

    "i love you too, pops." the words come easy, easier than they ever have with anyone else. he's about to ask what brought this on when the sound of his character dying snaps his attention away. "nooo!! you did that on purpose!!" shoots an accusatory glare at jay before he protectively clutches the controller to his chest. "it's still my turn!!"
