I've noticed the desire to treat Orion Pax (data clerk) as higher caste, which compared to Megatron he seems that way, but Megatron never calls him on it. Why is that?
Within functionalism data clerk is a vast field. Orion may be within the Iacon hall of records, but he only tags data, acting as a living algorithm. In real life this sort of job exists too: moderating online content. Now you might be thinking "oh yes, forum mods", but you might be thinking "oh yeah, the people who scrub the internet of cp and beheadings". These jobs are the same but of course curating a research library is very different from deleting antisemitic comments from the internet.
Depending on the source you use in the aligned continuity Orion had Megatron cross his work feed. Orion has also had to categorise sharkticons. There's a good chance Optimus had to watch people die as part of his job. Maybe not a lot, as he's horrified by Jazz telling him he's very different from those who get melted down to make products, but enough that it's part of his job.
There are definitely workers who do have to review death on the daily, as a criminal analyst Jazz might have needed to watch that sort of content as well.
As a long term career it sucks. No one wants to acknowledge your work, you are understaffed and underpaid, you are micromanaged for breaks and inactivity of any kind and so you aren't even allowed to take a breather after watching someone get murdered. Workers are prone to anxiety and PTSD obviously. Quite a few turn to drugs and other unhealthy coping mechanisms. Being fed conspiracy theories and racist content for hours at a time obviously desensitizes you to a degree, which makes you make mistakes in how severe an infraction is. You can also start taking in some of these ideas yourself due to having no time/energy to find counters and the immense pressure you're under. And making more than a few handful of mistakes gets you fired.
Irl this work is often done by contract workers, but in transformers it's likely to be done by minicons: cassettes, datasticks, etc; and disabled bots with no other job prospects.
It's unclear if the aligned continuity has a way to erase memories but it's certain to have been in development. The cortical psychic patch may have been banned because it could do so. Without a method it's possible that once a data clerk was too traumatised to function...
A mistake is decided by your peers and whether or not they decided the same way you did. When mistakes decide whether or not you keep your job, and that this job desensitizes you to violence on purpose, it can make the workplace a very tense and threatening place to be.
So this might be why Megatron never contradicted Orion on his view of low class solidarity, at least not until after the council, where in he starts calling him "librarian", which is much closer to Orion's job than the content moderator he was expecting.
