So I have this real rabbit fur cape of which I feel evil and ethically very bad about.
But I want to explain a bit: first, yes it is ethically bad to own *any* real life fur, especially if they are just breeded for their fur, which is in my case not the case. I made a compromise with myself. There is a manufacture near my city who makes relatively few of these and claims that they are from rabbits that had a normal life, not being bred to be fat and have much fur, but that these furs were side-products when they were slaughtered for their meat.
I agree with veganism on a full level in these means, but if they already die why waste most of the stuff? I know they shouldn't have died if people didn't eat them in the first place, but that is no realistic ideal: that no human on earth would eat meat...
I just see it from the pragmatic side as the native people did it: They used ALL of the animal, not just the meat, not just the fur, maybe even the bones for whatever they can be used as....
Just I know I did nothing good with buying it, but did you know how damn incredible warm fur is? I have 2 fur clothes, this rabbit cape is rather just an accessory and skill I admit, but I also own a jacket/west of nutria by the same manufacture. I researched long before buying it. They claimed they were free living nutrias which were overpopulating the woods. I know this doesn't justify killing any animal... but this winter it hit 20 degress celsius below zero and I felt warm in this west unlike any other winter jacket I have ever owned. I am very thankful for these animals, and although it may sound very illogical, it is my way of honouring these animals...
Still I feel very bad about the ethics, but I made compromises. The manufacture is called Falkenwacht. They don't produce in masses which was the reason why I even contemplated buying fur clothes.
Although I feel very bad about the rabbit fur, because it has no real pragmatic value unlike the nutria vest.
Please forgive me if I have triggered anything bad in you. And I am sorry I own two fur clothes. But I have contemplated very much. Also I hate people who wear fur like jewelry or the rich people buying mass produced fur clothes.
On the other side, I am not really better then them, or?

Oh damn. Now I own it and the animals can't be made alive again... But am I really encouraging the fur business with these two acts of buying? 1/3rd says yes and 2/3rds of me says no, because these were slaughter slide products and or wildlife shootings from overpopulation... It was important for me where these furs came from and that it is no mass production.
Whatever I hate this ethical dilemma, but it, especially the rabbit fur is a skill for my autistic ass, when I can't cuddle my cats. And the nutria vest, well I could survive a new ice age with it...
I think until like minus 35° C this fur would hold warm af. And it is good against rain/snow because of the remaining fats in the fur.
In respect of the animals that have died to make myself feel better/ warm in winter, I still am very sorry.
I won't ever buy anything with fur that has an even more unethical source. That is my compromise.
