Kirra had been tending to her garden all morning. Her fur was caked in dirt and her paws ached from digging a new row of petunias. Yet, in spite of her body’s complaints, she padded over to her gardens pride and joy. Her sunflowers were in full bloom and provided some much welcomed shade. With a contented sigh, Kirra sat down among their makeshift canopy and surveyed her garden. It was beautiful she thought and taking one of the smaller sunflowers in her paws she decided that, despite it all, it was worth it. As soon as @fiyerose mentioned that Kirra’s sunflowers were her pride and joy I just knew I had to enter. Sunflowers are my absolute favorite thing to draw and have been for a very long time. While yes a whole field of them did take forever we’re absolutely one of my favorite parts of this piece. It was also really fun to try a new shading style! I knew this piece was going to be pretty complicated line wise given how busy the sunflowers are and so I wanted to keep the shading and linework pretty harmonious. So I decided to sketch, line, and and shade this one entirely in graphite. I think it lends itself nicely to the earthy work of gardening. Sadly that does mean some of the details are hard to spot.
