"what a mess."
three word starters / accepting / @futlti
he doesn’t think he has wings anymore.
a terror he can’t describe / something he’s never felt before tears apart his chest, breathing broken and uneven. this shouldn’t be happening. he knows he’s not untouchable, he’s almost died once before and even while in the top three he’s had plenty of close calls, but. this shouldn’t be happening. to feel so helpless, to be immobilized with pain / with fear, hawks feels pathetic.
there’s visions of himself, dead, forcing their way into his head and he can’t tell if it’s because of him or because he knows he’s going to die. he’s not sure it even matters. the option to just lie there, crumple up on the ground and accept whatever horrible death is surely coming is more and more tempting by the second, and for a moment he thinks he might just do that.
he doesn’t. minami touri— the winged hero— hawks— is a stubborn man, and that stubbornness might just be the only thing keeping himself from giving up and dying on the spot. whether that’s a good or a bad thing, he tries to stand.
he thinks he must look as pathetic as he feels, pushing himself off the ground, entire body shaking as he tries to see through a haze of blood loss, pain, & fear. maybe it’s through morbid entertainment that he isn’t stopped. after all, the hero couldn’t land a hit at full strength, only someone delusional would think he could land one now.
it takes a few tries, a few times of nearly collapsing into a heap on the ground before he can unsteadily force himself to his feet. it must be a miracle that he’s standing, he can’t think of any other explanation. a practiced movement, something he’s done most of his life, feet kicking off the ground to propel himself into the air— and he already knows he won’t be able to fly. he tries to move wings that aren’t there. he comes crashing back to the ground in seconds.
he doesn’t get back up.
