The coming out will affect the band IN THE MOST POSITIVE WAY EVER! Even Simon Cowell knows it, that’s why he jumped on board with NT back then and is now undermining all of their plans (even if he could be smarter and act differently in my opinion). Can you imagine what a competent team can do, how they can spread and turn the news of two gay, committed members within the most popular boyband in circulation? How current gayfriendly press can spin it?! It’ll be huge and bring so much positive publicity to the boys as a whole. There will always be some groups fighting it, shaming them for who they are and what they represent, but that counts close to zero in the global scheme of things. Damn, some radical people from the Baptist Church were actually picketing Heath Ledger’s funeral because he had played an iconic gay role in a movie years before he died! There’s a reason the coming out is going hand in hand with the rebrand and wisely being planned to help such rebrand, even. Their goal won’t be to please little kids who depend on their parents’ approval to spend money on the band, they’ll aim to appeal to older teens and college students and general audience who will enjoy their adult images and the new music they’ll come up with. People who won’t care that half the band is gay or that will care a lot and find it endearing! You need to be prepared for a totally different One Direction to return from their break, different in their style, in their music, in the boys’ presentation, in their publicity tools, in their private life management, in the way they’ll communicate with their fans, their fans themselves. It’s going to be a long ride and the coming out will be a huge, spectacular (and remunerative) part of it because it’s finally going to be handled and be handled in the right way.
