Ducktails — "Letter of Intent"
Today is the first day many high school athletes can sign their national letters of intent to play sports in college, so this is pretty obligatory.

This track was featured by a blog I found on the Hypem Spotify app. I wasn't really paying attention when it came on and I thought it must be a new track by one of my heroes, Sebastien Tellier, because the male vocal sounded exactly like him and it had the sleazy laid back vibe he goes for even down to the uber french 80s electric guitar. I flashed back to the Spotify playlist and was surprised to see the name Ducktails and again assumed it must be some Tellier collab. On further research I discovered that Ducktails in in fact a New York based 'solo' act by Matt Mondanile (I'd never heard of him before). 'Letters of Intent' is taken from his new album 'The Flower Lane' on Domino Records and in fact features Future Shuttle's Jessa Farkas and Big Troubles' Ian Drennan (again I had no prior knowledge of either artist/band). At this point I decided I felt super out of touch with new music and that really I ought to be more attentive and in fact start some kind of blog to keep track of my musical discoveries. So here I am... "hello. Welcome to my blog!"
I've yet to listen to the entire album 'The Flower Lane' but 'Letters of Intent' is a fantastic, slightly ironic, pop gem which really is a must listen for any fans of Sebastien Tellier. Released 28th Jan 2012 BUY.
How best to enjoy this track: Pour yourself a large glass of red wine, strip down to your leather pants and lie on a fur rug by a huge fake fire in a cheap skii lodge and pop this track on while you roll around pretending you are a sexy black panther. Enjoy.
