Patrick lifted her heels from the ground once she took them off, fingers looped around the straps. Even he could appreciate a nice pair of heels--or maybe that was Chad rubbing off on him. He hadn’t always been this shallow, had he?

He tosses the shoes over the fence and then some instinct pushes him to say, “Hey--if I were you? I wouldn’t come back. Ever.” The house gave her up this time...but what about next time?         reporter’s finally sent him copies of all the photos he took while out in country, and --- a few blurry ones aside, and some of god knows what where he was probably high on ripped fuel and sleep deprivation --- they’re a pretty good bunch. the guy’s no photojournalist, but they’re a new perspective, for nate. flipping through them is surreal; it’s like it’s the first goddamn time, because there’s no time for sightseeing when you’re trying to keep your men alive ( especially when your captain seems determined to kill them, one way or another ).  ❝ it was, uh, more a case of observe everything, admire nothing. ❞
