Crush - Part 1
Itara leaned out over her desk, propping her head lazily on her fists as she stared blankly and boredly at the instructor at the front of the room. This was boring. Everything they were covering today was just for the upcoming tests, making sure they all knew what they needed to study for, but she already knew the answers. Beyond her ability to time travel, her mental capacity was far past the fourth grade class she was stuck in. While the rest of her class would be staying up late with their faces in books, attending cram schools, and all around worrying about the upcoming tests, she would be busying herself with far more important matters... particularly the destruction of this entire world. Even if she failed the tests, which she wouldn't, it didn't matter. Everything would see it's end before long.
But for the time being... she was stuck here, in this classroom, at this desk, listening to a dull, boring teacher droll on about test this and quiz that and next year this and studying that. It bored her greatly... but there was nothing she could do about it. This was, unfortunately, a necessity for the moment to not draw unneeded attention to herself in this specific timeline. It made her regret choosing such a small, obviously-childlike body to inhibit.
Sighing heavily and blinking back a couple tears that slipped from her tired eyes, she switched her attention to the large window two rows away. It was raining again. This seemed to be the rainy season in this area. How annoying. As if her balance wasn't bad enough, now everything had to be wet and slippery! How dare this weather?! She truly hated the rain or cloudy, cold days in general. She assumed it had to do with being part of a Sun God, but her more direct father was called Mephiles the -Dark-. Well, dark didn't always mean cold and she didn't mind the dark parts of cloudy days. She simply didn't like being cold and rainy and wet. Or snow. Oh how she'd come to hate the snow. Less for the snow, itself, but because snow always meant ice and ice was, as she had officially decided, her arch nemesis. Nothing threw her balance off more unexpectedly than the ice! It hid itself in all the glittering, sparkly of the snow and attacked with unprecedented slipperiness to make all in it's wake look like utter fools! While it was funny to watch everyone else slip and fall about on the ice... it was far less funny when it happened to her. Oh, that dreadful ice. She would melt it all once she and her father were reunited with Iblis!
At some point during her mental raging, her fist had curled up and slammed hard on the desk in front of her, drawing the attention of not only the other students in her class... but her teacher, as well. Once she realized the class had gone silent and looked to see why, noticing they all had their eyes trained on her, her face lights up like a lamp.
"Itara, is there something you would like to share with the class?" the instructor questioned, eyeing her heavily and judgingly. This wasn't the first time she had inadvertently interrupted class or dozed off, not paying attention, and he doubted it'd be the last, either.
"Ah... er... I... u-um...." Itara stammered, looking down and off to the side, trying to figure out what to say, or rather, to check her notebook for the correct response. She had picked up this trick from her father, a time-enhanced booklet she wrote in in the future, for her past self. Giving it a quick glance, she looks up blankly and states simply, "no, I have nothing to share. I was simply lost in more important thoughts than your droll babbling, is all. Please, don't let me interrupt."
And, of course, as per usual with every other time she sassed her teachers, she was immediately sent to the hallway to 'think about her disrespectful nature' until a principal came by to give her quite the coaching and, eventually, send her home. Or rather, they called her 'parent' to come pick her up so she couldn't further disrupt class that day. She was also, of course, sent home with a mountain of homework to make up for her out of place tone. And, as per usual, she gave no interest in apologizing. None of it really mattered, anyway. They'd all be destroyed sooner rather than later and she would personally make sure each and every one of them knew it was her that proved their undoing.
But for the meantime... she had an angry robot to face... and that was far more effective than an angry school official.
"Itara, really? Again? How many times has this made? You're going to get kicked out if you keep this up and then what are we going to do? You have to stay in school, at least for the time being, and we can't afford to move again just to make sure you stay in school," RK scolded her once they were out of earshot of the elementary school building.
"It's not my fault, it was boring so I spaced out," Itara whined, kicking at a rock in front of her, only to nearly trip in the process. Luckily she always had RK there to catch her. She didn't much like the idea of walking the rest of the way home in a soaked skirt.
"You can't keep zoning out like that, either," RK continued, setting her back on her feet as he moved the umbrella to make sure it was over both of them, "even if you know everything, you can't let on that you aren't a normal Mobian. I know you're aware of this so I don't understand why I have to keep repeating myself about this."
Itara leaned her head back in exasperation, whining, "I knoooowwww!!! Stop nagging at meeee! I said it wasn't my fault, alright?" A sigh escaped both the robot and the young time traveller before the walk became silent. Itara was off in thought and RK simply didn't want to nag further. He knew she was well-aware of what needed to be done and he didn't see a point in scolding her further. It would do no good and simply waste both of their energies.
They walked in silence for a good 20 minutes or so until RK finally spoke up again, "so what were you thinking about that got you all flustered this time?"
Itara made a slight face before explaining, "Ice."
"Ice?"
"Ice. How much I hate it, specifically."
Itara went silent again after that as RK looked down, giving the child a strange look before smirking slightly, "I see. Ice." Itara nodded at this response, glad he agreed at how terrible ice was and was content to continue their walk in further silence. She had to focus on not slipping in the terrible water all over the concrete, after all.
Once they finally reached their home, no longer the small shack they once inhabited but a slightly larger two-bedroom house, still fairly rundown by modern standards, but it was a vast improvement from their previous state. Besides, they still needed somewhere far away from everyone else and everything was either far too expensive... or abandoned, rundown places like this. Neither of them really minded, though, as one of them spent most of their existence offline in a tube and the other was simply happy to have a home at all. Both of them were satisfied just not being under Robotnik's thumb. Sighing heavily again, Itara pulled her soaked shoes off and went straight for the couch, flopping right onto it sideways to lie face-first for awhile. RK picked her shoes up and set them neatly by the door before pulling his own off and putting the umbrella away, then moved into the living room to pick Itara's backpack up and look through it. He knew she would have homework to do and knew he'd have to make sure all of it was there before she had a chance to hide any of it. For someone so clumsy, she was still very sneaky.
He made his way to the dining room and pulled the homework out to look it over and set it out neatly for her at one of the chairs so she could get busy once she was done pouting on the couch. "You have exams coming up soon, right?" he questioned, looking over the extra homework she was giving for her punishment. He only received a groan of annoyance as a response. "Do your best on them, even if it doesn't matter much in the long run." Another groan. Itara had no interest in talking further about these exams. What a bunch of poor saps, those other kids, having to deal with this sort of thing regularly. She barely wanted to deal with it right now and she was not only smarter, older, and a time-traveller, but she only had to deal with it temporarily. Well, everyone only had to deal with it temporarily, really. Once she destroyed everything and everyone, no one would have to go to school ever again.
She was being generous, if they really thought about it. Saving all the poor kids of the world from school and homework. What a wonderful fate they faced and they had her to thank for it.
Well, her and her dad and Iblis, of course.
