Scar’s Thoughts: Holy spacemagic!punk, Batman!! This was awesome and everything I wanted from a space drama. I love the little snippets of Arthur’s life with the Phoenix Guard that get dropped in, Morgana’s constant need for control, and pretty much everything about technopaths.

Tennessee Peach Fuzz Tomato. According to William Woys Weaver, this French heirloom was first mentioned in the U.S. as Peach Tomato in 1891 and is good as a paste tomato or in jams. Fruit falls when ripe. The skin really does have a subtle fuzz to it. While the French bred this funny peach-like tomato, the species originates in the Andes, and was likely developed as food by the Aztecs in what is now Mexico.

Summary: Merlin has never had a secret admirer before so he’s fairly certain this one has the wrong guy.

Thoughts: My buddy Chelsea [who has a new fic rec blog ficrecsforscience - check it out!] pointed me towards this adorrrraaabbllle Merhur fic.

It's a high school AU, which the Merlin fandom seems to be filled with, & Merlin is the library assistant who has a hard time with bullies in school. Arthur, king nerd that he is, starts to leave Merlin flirty anonymous notes in his books & it gets even cuter from there.

These two are perfectly in character for their setting - Arthur, the brooding-at-first-glance jock type who starts to warm up to Merlin & proceeds to be extremely ugly & jealous when Gwaine tries to move in on Minecraft-playing Merlin.

The author's descriptions of Merlin feeling sad & lonely & tired all struck a cord & I wanted to just gather him up & hug him or knock Arthur upside the head for making him feel that way in the first place.

Anyway, this is a short & cute little piece, perfectly fluffy & great for these cold winter nights.

Warnings: Some physical bullying turns ugly for a minute.

Summary: Merlin works in a coffee shop, is a literature student, lives with Will, flirts with Gwaine, is friends with Gwen and has a stunningly normal life. Until Arthur walks in and changes everything.

Comment: This story is what I consider to be a classic, so I'm sure many of you have read it already; but if you haven't you really should! Merlin and Arthur's relationship is just perfect, I loved how they worked their way into each other's lives and became best friends (and maybe more...) without even realizing it; and Merlin's shock at the fact is very amusing. I also liked that Arthur was a bit more open about how much he cared for Merlin than he was in the series, and I couldn't wait for Merlin to come to his senses on Arthur's behalf. A fantastic story.
