Spoiler but I guess you don't care cause you already said the thing with Ymir: Bad news, Sasha also died. My sister and I were even talking about the bullsh*ttery that is Ymir's death this morning and I mentioned Sasha's death and I guess she had kind of blocked it from her mind because she gave a low-level why-did-you-remind-me scream. Getting invested in AOT characters is one of my biggest media consumption regrets. Really wish I had just steered clear.

ugh I accidentally clicked a link after I finished writing my answer to this and lost it so now I gotta write it again. ANWAY I’m caught up with the manga so I know about Sasha. It stung and it sucked, but still at least her death was treated like it actually mattered and it’s had an actual impact on the characters around her who were close to her. As opposed to Ymir who just got tossed away off screen with barely a mention about it. So between the two, Ymir’s the one I’m more bitter about.

Yeahhhh. All this is why no one ever sees me blogging about AoT. The writer has a lot of detestable beliefs and soak through into the manga, and on top of that it’s just not even that good regardless of all that

yeahh i did consider that....but i feel like once it was cut off and so the sea stone wasn’t touching him anymore he should be able to regrow it??  i do think it’s likely he has a weakness to sea stone weapons, but ofc if he got someone to cut it off he could make sure it wasn’t with sea stone....

my sister threw a birthday party for her husband on halloween (since his bday is nov. 1st) and hired aerial performers to twist around and be sexy and all that, and honestly shance AU where shiro meets lance when he's performing at an event and becomes totally enraptured

@fwips omg that is Too Good, i’m definitely a sucker for that kind of thing!! shiro is trying to focus on the event, but he’s gay and distracted. lance notices him looking a few too many times and winks at him, RIP shiro... i could imagine that unfolding so many ways haha

its a common theme in shounen mangas (maybe japanese culture?? idk im not japanese so what do i know) that seems to have truly horrible people being completely forgiven just because they later show remorse and/or apologize. ((ie. sasuke being perfect example. bad guy, given every chance to be good, begged to be good, doesnt do good, eventually kind of does good? does more bad, but still gets constantly forgiven and given a reward of a happy peaceful life.)) i hate it  theres no way in hell i'd forgive people who did horrible things to me just because they say sorry, and im not entitled to, and there shouldnt be the lesson to others that you're obligated to forgive if someone says sorry

I think that in the US the “mandatory forgiveness” viewpoints tend to come from religious and spiritual people who think that everyone has to forgive everyone and let go for their own sake, while from manga I usually see this kind of stuff from manga and anime (usually shounen like you said, but also other kinds) with the attitude of “we’re friends (or family) and because of that we will always be friends/family no matter how much garbage stuff you do” which is... nice but again it gives people a free pass to hurt and treat people like garbage with absolutely no consequences (like Sasuke!). 

But yeah it’s the right of the person who was wronged to decide whether or not they forgive the other person. There isn’t a right or wrong decision there because each person gets to decide what is best for themselves. Unfortunately it doesn’t really seem like there is very much media representation that acknowledges this and presents the choice of “No, I don’t forgive you for what you did and I don’t think I ever will.” And with how much pro-forgiveness, media there is out there where people become families again or friendship saves the day or whatever it winds up making people feel like they can’t choose not to forgive someone because then they’re the bad person who is now hurting this reformed, good person by denying them their rightful forgiveness even through that’s not how it fucking works! 

It’s one of those life lessons that sounds great when you’re a kid who grew up going to church and watching anime (like me) but if you really think about it when you get older and start thinking critically about things and actually listening to the opinions of abuse survivors then you start realizing that people have a right not to forgive others and that that really isn’t taught to us but damn sure should be

yea ppl like to gloss over the whole 'i acknowledge he's being cast as 'the most kind hearted person', however, this new 'kind sanji' is quite literally putting his friends in horrible danger to save people he has literally never cared even slightly about, who tried to kill him, who would happily kill his friends/family, but yea sure save them i guess??? why not sure. like way to want to spare the lives of thousands of Really Fucking Bad Guys who WILL kill and hurt and main and destroy entire countries bcuz i guess you're a Nice Guy?? good lookin out, sanji

And it’s made all the worst that Oda has been cramming the entire Vinsmoke family full of fucking Nazi imagery. They’re the freaking OP 3rd Reich. It was always skeezy and uncomfortable and a bad decision on Oda’s part, but now Sanji wants to SAVE them? Like wow this might just turn into a freaking Nazi rescue/redemption arc if Oda doesn’t pull a good 180 on this

lol the asks and comments im getting after making a post venting abt his decisions and behavior in the updates are gross lol someone even defended sanji as being extremely kind and then said they hate Reiju??? okay.

that’s actually the exact reason I made that post! I saw your vent post, wholeheartedly agreed with it (”I know that my brothers literally just beat a woman almost to death just for shits and giggles like 12 hours ago but I need to save them from the consequences of their own decisions!” like fucking come on Oda stop that). But then I checked the notes and promptly saw a “Sanji is the most beautiful and kindhearted soul whose love and purity radiates out to illuminate the whole world” comment and promptly felt like throwing my laptop across the room.

I do not miss being active in the OP fandom and having to see, deal with, and respond to that kind of stuff every day

omgg is it really that upsetting??  now you’re just making me curious tbh!!  i read p far when i did read it, though it definitely seemed like shit was about to get Real when i happened to stop keeping up.
