#cse • @jpmanaga After my trip to Sturgis last year, I had this idea and decided to get after it. I wanted to create my version of a factory special edition bike that utilized the modern @harleydavidson branding. The modern bar and shield logo has been out for a while and I don’t think they’ve quite figured out how to apply it on the bikes (with the exception of the Pan America model). My approach: Starting off as 99 FXD, I wanted to stay true to the platform and era. I really loved the early 2000s oem colors, like the fxdx smokey gold pearl, then added in some CVO style ghost flames that hint at the jade sunglow oem color. I went pretty classic on the panel blocking and I went a little further back to bring the 70s superglide style font (good ol’ helvetica) to match it up with the modern HD logo. As a designer it’s been fun to apply my learnings of pushing and pulling from heritage to modern and the constant dance of design.
