Ariel Mercer ✤ Requiem

So here’s the thing: Ariel Mercer was a ghost.  And granted, it was a shock that ghosts were real, but it wasn’t a surprise that she was dead – she remembered dying.  But here’s the other thing: Ariel Mercer wanted to die.  It wasn’t a tragic accident, not like her big brother and his friends, it wasn’t an incurable illness, it was freedom. Ariel Mercer hadn’t had a perfect childhood by any means, but it had been alright.  Her parents had put too much pressure on her to be perfect, especially after her older brother came out, but she’d had Alex.  Alex who would always bring the young girl to Sunset Curve rehearsals, who would let her sleep in his room whenever she had a nightmare, who’d always taken the blame and punishment for her mistakes.  Alex had been her big brother, her protector, her everything.  And then Alex had died. After losing her brother, and two of his three best friends, things went downhill.  Her parents were harder on her than ever, and she soon lost track of how many nights she’d spent crashing in Bobby’s guest room, the two taking comfort with the only other person to understand what they’d lost.  But Bobby grew up, and Bobby became Trevor Wilson, and Ariel was alone.  And Ariel hated being alone. So, years after losing her brother, years of nothing ever getting better, Ariel finally ended it.  And for that last, brief moment, she had been happy.  Except now, she’s a ghost.  But it turns out she’s not the only one.
