As I’m sure most of you don’t know, I was one of the admins at fyinfinite. I joined in July of 2013, and left early this morning.
I’m sure about half of you actually like fyinfinite, and I’m sure the other half of you loathe the blog. I understand people’s reasons for both. fyi has been around since before INFINITE’s debut and for the blog to still be up and running now is really quite a feat. I also know most of you find fyi admins to be very sassy and rude, which, in my opinion, is also very true.
The thing about fyi is that some of the admins are very opinionated. And that’s fine, I have my own opinions too. But the difference is that they reflect their opinions onto the blog, which I’m not okay with. Fuck yeahs are supposed to be objective, and I don’t think it’s valid for the admins to decide that they shouldn’t post certain things, because it’s not something they themselves want to spread.
As some of you may have noticed, there is no post on fyinfinite about Woollim’s latest official statement about Myungsoo. Some of you may recall seeing a post on fyi at around midnight last night, which is no longer there. It would make sense that fyi posts about it, considering it’s about an INFINITE member and that it’s an official statement.
I was the one that made the decision that fyinfinite should post Woollim’s statement, and I got one of my friends to help me. As someone with admin status, I thought I had the power to make this decision. Actually, I thought that posting this wasn’t something anyone should be opposed to, because to be a reliable resource, fyi should post everything confirmed to be true, regardless of how good or bad it is. Fuck yeah blogs shouldn't be subjective, but last night, the response I got from an admin was, “I’m not protecting the issue, people will find out eventually from others but would prefer not to be a part of it,” (1) and ”I’m sorry but it’s my blog….. as much as we don’t get personal on there, it will still have my personality and opinion.” (2) I don’t think that’s right at all. As a result of this disagreement, I was asked to leave the blog (they were insistent, so they had to ask twice, apparently). (3) (4)
From my experience on the blog, there are so many inspirits who rely on fyinfinite as a resource. I honestly didn’t know how to reply to messages (mostly afraid that I wouldn’t reply in such a way the other admins would), so I stayed silent most of the time.
I’ve been on tumblr as an inspirit for two years now, and fyi was one of the first INFINITE blogs I followed. I’ve seen their ups and their downs - I’ve seen their quick updates, as well as their rude replies to some people. In the times fyi had disappeared I saw people on my dash and on my timeline on twitter freaking out, thinking they’ve lost such a great INFINITE blog.
Honestly… fyi doesn’t care about you. I was told yesterday, by the same admin as earlier, that “fyi has been and always been just another personal blog but people think otherwise that’s why it’s funny.” (5) And that sucks. I see how much people turn to fyi as a resource, and I feel bad for inspirits on tumblr who rely on fyi, because fyi itself acknowledges they’re unreliable, but don’t do anything about it. Instead they just allow people to continue supporting them for reasons they know they don't deserve.
The point of this post? It was just something that had to be said. Whether you like fyi or not isn’t my business, I just wanted to let people know what I think.
I’m sad that I wasted so much time on fyi. There were things on the blog that I did because I wanted fyi to be great. I wanted to at least try and make it the great fuck yeah some people seem to think it is. But at this point, I’m pretty sure it’s way too late for that.
And for those people who do feel the same way as I do... I hope someone steps up and does something about it. I want to see a new INFINITE fuck yeah rise to the occasion. Yes, it's a huge time commitment, but anyone dedicated enough (and with the right intentions) could do it. Running a fuck yeah shouldn't be about having power or popularity in a fandom. It shouldn't be a chore, and it most definitely should not be done just so you feel superior to other people in the fandom. It should be fun, and it should be done because the admins genuinely enjoy dedicating a significant portion of their time to that group/member and that blog.
*** throughout this entire post, I referred to fyi admins in general. I don’t want to go back and fix every single one now, but honestly, everything (including all the quotes I made) comes down to one person. And to that one person: I’m sure you feel entitled because you started the blog, but when I had admin status, you technically had no power over me. I think it’s absolutely crazy that you thought you did. I also could’ve left very inappropriate (and very phallic) images all over the blog just to spite you. Luckily for you, I have more class than that.
Hi Everyone~
We are super overwhelmed by all the donations we have gotten in the past 2 days. We didn’t expect the turn out of people tbqh. So Thank you for the millionth times. (lol) Unfortunately We only have 20 lightsticks left and we will no longer be able to give anymore away after that. We cannot order anymore either because production and shipping takes 2-3 weeks. As we all know the concert is 2 weeks away and it’s just impossible to order anymore. If anything, We can order more Banners and that will be the only thing we will be able to give away. Thanks, -fyi-
Hi Again~
In amazing turn of events, we received a great amount of donation today. So We would just like to thank everyone who donated, We really appreciate the warm response. You all are helping a really good cause. We actually did not expect to get as much as donation as we got today, and so to be honest we are actually running low on the banners. (fyi: the banners are printed on fabric) We will try to order some more but unfortunately your dear admins aren't rich (lol) and plus time is of concern. We will still try our best to get some more. lol.. I order a few more but not very much ..
Also I know that we never really specify the amount to be donated in order to get a cheering package but upon discussion with the other admins/friends we think it's only fair that any donation under $5 will be only given one of the two. So any donations under $5 we will only be giving you a lightstick. Another thing is that We would just like to remind that the banners x lightsticks are bought with our own money and so the amount is limited. Again Thank You..
♥ -fyi-
