Two of the cutest slings i have ever seen… or maybe I’m biased lol. Meet Lapis Lazuli (Caribena Versicolor) and Zelda (Grammostola Rosea). Thank you 130 Exotics for these guys:)
Male G.rosea creating a sperm web
A male tarantula is mature once he has his final molt (he sheds his entire exoskeleton, kind of like a snake sheds it’s skin.) After the last molt he is ready to mate so he makes a special web called a sperm web. He lays down in his sperm web and deposits his sperm in it then stores it in his bulbous pedipalps (Pedipalps look like a short pair of front legs). After he is finished he will usually destroy the sperm web. Once he meets a female tarantula he will lift the female up with his legs to access pouches underneath her. He uses his pedipalps to deposit his sperm into the pouches.
So my cousin had her baby today, and everyone's all excited and I'm just sitting here like "I got a new fuzzy baby too! .... Mine's cuter."
New pet acquired! An 8 year old rosey my coworker got for her son when he was a kid, but now has to go off to college. (Coffee cup is how I snuk her in past my brother. He's very much a "easier to ask forgiveness than permission" kind of guy.) So excited about this girl. Her tub will get more decor soon. It's just stashed in my car atm. Also I need a name! Charolette is a little /too/ cliche for me.
Some absolutely gorgeous girls I’ve received the past few days. All sexed females. Top is a G. rosea, middle is E. pachypus, bottom is E. murinus
tarantula ask
so i have a 5.5 gallon being set up for my G. Rosea, is there live plants that would do good in the environment that the G. Rosea needs? i have fake plants and honestly its mostly to make everyone feel better about the spider (most of my room mates are a little scared of her lol i think a really nice looking terrarium helps) and she likes to climb over them too hehe
they have to be short though because i put a lot of substrate in the terrarium so there isn’t any climbing accidents and not poisonous to her because i know spiders chew on stuff sometimes (cuz spiders are dorks tbh)
also to add, I want to get rid of the sponge for bacteria reasons. whats a good alternative, marbles? just open water (i heard this isn’t good tho), rocks?
thoughts?
Spidey is so pretty and fluffy :3 Guys, if you have a rose hair, don’t ever let anyone tell you these spiders aren’t just as stunning as any other tarantula.
