This Old Mac Episode 6
Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to my ongoing adventure in the world of Macintosh. Well that's kind of inaccurate for this entry as it is being typed using the i7 potato Samsung laptop. Not a Mac at all but this is been typed using WriteRoom 3 as the actual machine has been Hackintoshed.
Now are Hackintoshes legal. Most definitely not Apple just have not found a way to close such systems down as of yet. Maybe they have and just don't care. I have no idea. However this i7 potato is now running MacOS Catalina.
Is it the latest 10.15.5 nope but it is version 10.15. Can it be updated probably but being a Hackintosh it's probably very awkward to get it to such a position without breaking something.
Why do I need a Hackintosh... The simple answer is I don’t really need one it was just a case of can I manage to get it to run.
Initially I could not get the installation to run but once I figured to Inject Intel from the boot menu I was in business. After getting through the install which was in two parts. I finally managed to get in. However I had no WiFi or sound.
Bit of internet finagling later I managed to get Clover Configurator, VoodooHDA and USB WiFi drivers. I admit the internal i7 wifi card which is an Atheros card I could not get working even after several attempts but luckily I have a USB WiFi adaptor which works so that is what is being used.
Once Clover Configurator was installed I could sort out not having to set up Inject Intel as its now set in the EFI using the Clover bootloader. Installed kexts to EFI using it to. Had to set a flag to inject kexts.
So for now it works. I have Video, Sound, WiFi all working and for now it hasn't exploded or died.
Installed Firefox, Thunderbird, Writeroom 3 and so far all working good. What do I do with it now I have got this far...no idea. It was a test to see if I could do it and I have.
Got any recommendations of what to install?
If so let me know. Well I guess I will have to find something to test it.
I have also been playing with my G3 iMac Indigo so I have been using a genuine Mac. I have been installing some old games on the OS 9.22 partition. so I have been playing games like Lemmings, Monkey Island 1 & 2 and Prince of Persia. All fun.
Well I think that is enough for this episode...so until time ...take care
An old apple branded Quantum 7gb IDE drive sitting on top of the G3 iMac that it was removed from to make way for a nice and tasty 80gb Barracuda IDE drive.
The space jam website is the best way to test internet explorer 5 mac edition on the G3 iMac. This is hype as fuck.
