I’m very likely to just buy the heads and masks off BrickLink at this point, because they’re not coming out well
Macku’s mask did, but Hahli’s (I decided to try to print a “proper” one) and Nixie’s did not, to the point that I’m not even photographing that sorry excuse for a Kaukau
And the heads seem to get mangled one way or another no matter how I orient them
Went on a little hike last week across some salt water marshes, and the whole time I was thinking what a great place it would be for a village of Ga-Matoran.
You'd have your normal fishers and boaters, but it could host a thriving community of Ga-Matoran geologists and Rahi specialists as well, especially ones who studied birds. Saw seagulls, crows, an eagle, some kind of plover, cormorants, and herons over the course of just a couple hours.
Coastal lilypad or cliff villages are great, but don't underestimate more inland settings for Water-aligned locations either. This has been your worldbuilding tip from TSD for the day.
HEWKII X MACKU: MACKU’S GUIDE ON HOW TO DATE A TOA WHILE YOU’RE A MATORAN
This guide has been written by the smartest, most beautiful, clever matoran and Turaga Noakama’s worst nightmare, Macku.
Are you a Matoran that has fallen head over heels for a beautiful, strong, smart and powerful toa, but worry that just because you’re a matoran you won’t be able to continue your dating because he got recruited into a mission with his best friends that resulted in him going to Karzhani and then Voya Nui and then Mahri Nui and so on and so while you remained a matoran and he’s always busy with his toa team?
Then do not worry, this guide is exactly what you need to make both of your lives happy and long.
(DISCLAIMER: This guide only works if you are already dating a toa. If not, sorry, I’m not an expert in matchmaking).
You have your toa boyfriend or girlfriend, but now you’re wondering how you will be able to continue your relationship with their duties. First of all, continue to invite them to the everyday activity that you did while you were both matorans. Now that he’s an amphibian, Hewkii is always faster than me while we swim in the sea, though I’m not complaining about our long underwater games. If your man or woman is into another kind of thing, try something that they like but you have never done. WARNING! Matorans aren’t able to lift up a boulder over their heads if they’re not Po-Matorans. Do NOT try this for your own safety and not to have Turaga of all villages screaming in your ears while you’re recovering in the medbay.
Try using their toa weapons. As matorans, we all have crafted some kind of weapon to defend ourselves against the Makuta or some other threat. That is why we super enjoy trying REAL weapons (and not some bamboo sticks) like a Cordak Blaster and an Aqua Blade. ANOTHER WARNING! Never and I say Never try to wrap yourselves in electrical chains or whip them around if they’re too heavy. UPDATE: they hurt.
Make them use their elemental powers during your dates. Now this may vary for every type of toa that you could date, but there is nothing more beautiful for a Ga-Matoran than a Toa of Stone lifting you up while you’re on top of a giant pile of boulders. If you ever want to choose a type of toa that you want to date, choose a Toa Of Stone. They are great at carving sculptures of you, they have wonderful hands, they’re super powerfuls and they’re also fantastic Kohlii players.
Make them do stupid things for you. There are a lot of enjoyable things to do with your toa half, but one of the best ones is definitely embarrassing them. You can do this during various moments. They’re having a meeting? Call them loudly in public. They’re working? Immediately ran towards them and hug them or do anything to make them get weird looks from all the people around them. I could go on for hours, but I think it’s time for one of our last points of today.
They are toa, let them bring you on toa missions. No matter how dangerous you have to go with them. Sure it might be scary or you could die, but that’s the thrill of the relationship isn’t it? Also you could save their lives when their enemies is not looking or you could be the wonderful damsel in distress that they have to save. Everything is possible during these missions and every healthy Matoran/Toa couple should try.
Those are my first five points on how you should date your Toa half while you’re a matoran. I hope that I’ve inspired various matorans (Except Vhisola, go to a therapist, girl) to approach their toa to date them.
This has been your favorite Ga-Matoran signing off from Spherus Magna!
May the Great Spirit Guide you,
Macku ;)

Hahli
"Is that what heroes are, I wonder? Beings who do what they have to do, because they have no other choice?" -- Toa Inika Hahli, Power Play
Diminished
Occupation: Assistant Flax Maker Kanohi: Kaukau Status: Rebuilt Pronunciation: HAH-lee
Rebuilt
Occupation: Assistant Flax Maker / Kolhii champion / Chronicler Kanohi: Kaukau Tools: Kolhii stick / Chronicler's Staff Status: Transformed into a Toa Inika Pronunciation: HAH-lee
Hahli is the Toa Mahri of Water and the former Toa Inika of Water. A shy and diligent Ga-Matoran from Metru Nui, Hahli briefly served as the Chronicler of the island of Mata Nui. Under Jaller's leadership, she and four other Matoran mounted a rescue mission to Voya Nui and became Toa.
Merra
A Ga-Matoran archer from the Northern Continent.
Whilst in her village, Merra sprouted a budding interest in combat and engineering, often building motors for fishing boats and commencing formal combat training under the instruction of her local Toa. At this time in her life, she aspired to one day reach Metru Nui and lend her hand as a mechanic in Le-Metru. She was often found along the outskirts of her neighboring Matoran settlement, honing her agility by swinging through trees and mastering the terrain.
She wears Exota’s great Towuru, available on Shapeways.
Circa 2009 I remember making a painting of Hahli, a Ga-Matoran from Lego's BIONICLE toy line. I remember it looking like what you'd expect a 7-year-old's painting to look like, and I don't know its current whereabouts. So I made another one, 15 years later
Built Matoran OCs for my friend and I!
Trix the Ga-Matoran and Wyn the Onu-Matoran!
Wyn is inspired by my friend’s new internship doing some excavation and archival in a local burial site, it made me realize she’d make a great Onu-Matoran! (Who’s also female because fuck arbitrary gender-locked elements)
And Trix is the character who inspired that Vahki post from a while back, she’s also trans (formerly a Le-Matoran hence the green mask and hips) While I said prior “fuck arbitrary gender-locked elements” I wasn’t sure on a way to integrate that best into my headcanon in a way that fit existing characters when I designed her a month ago, so I kept with the Le- and Ga-Matoran assigned genders (they aren’t locked anymore, probably post-reformation modification or Ignika shenanigans fixed that problem post-canon)
