Onepu (Diminished)
"Onepu, at your service. I am the Captain of the famous Onu-Koronan Ussalry Regiment, Champion of Ussal Racing, and Special Aide of Whenua, our great Turaga." -- Onepu, Mata Nui Online Game
Occupation: Ussalry Captain / Special Aide of Whenua Kanohi: Pakari Tools: Bamboo Disk Status: Rebuilt Pronunciation: oh-NEE-poo
Onepu is an accomplished Onu-Matoran native to Metru Nui.
I haven't forgotten the MNOG Matoran Representation project! I started working on Le and Ko Matoran and have them just about finished. For some reason, instead of working on the villages in order that you encounter them in-game, I skipped Onu-Koro and went straight to Le-Koro. I think it was because there were a couple of Matoran I wanted to include there that aren't strictly in the Mata Nui Online Game. To be fair, I included Hahli and a couple others who aren't exactly in the game, but are shown in diminished form elsewhere before.
I figured Onu-Koro would be the easiest because there can't be that many unique models in game, right? Well, actually, by analyzing screenshots in the Matoran gallery on BS01, I realized there were a lot of background characters in the Onu-Wahi section of the game. Lots of miners in the lightstone mine, and the highway. I am also having a hard time differentatng between black and dark gray, so I may have taken some artistic liberties. Like, is Midak all black, or does he have dark gray parts? Perhaps he's been a bit sun-bleached due to his time on the surface? I might do something special with him later when I render him.
Attached is a preview of what I have so far for the Onu-Matoran. Also, wow, they used a LOT of purple! It would have been cool to see an Earth Toa with more purple in his color scheme later on! Oh well, a missed opportunity perhaps. I wonder what that could have looked like...
For Le and Ko Matoran, I have also added some characters shown in MNOG2, mostly to flesh out Ko-Koro a bit. I think there's only maybe 6 or so unique Ko-Matoran shown in MNOG off the top of my head. I'm debating whether I want to build a Kahu and Kewa for Le-Koro. I would love to have the Kewa you can call with the Flute included, at least! I don't plan on building the bigger Rahi; they're complicated builds and also I'm not sure if the treads are part of Stud.io or if I could get them to work. Also the Kaita have been giving me issues due to the way their legs are constructed, so if I include the Toa (which I already have built,) I will not be including the Kaita. One day I would like to try to build something resembling Makuta's "void" form too. I think a solid black/copper-speckle Matoran wearing a Hau is a good sembalance of his "Matoran" form.
I've had a lot of fun making these little guys. I look forward to sharing the whole island when I am able to!
(Oh, as a bonus, I will also be including the six Metru Nui Matoran in their diminished form. Some of them haven't been revealed officially in this form, so I have made versions of them based on their MNOG2 forms, some of which feature different masks. I think there's an "offical" Nuhrii in diminished form, though. Was he part of the Ta-Koro guard cutscene with Tahu?)
Built Matoran OCs for my friend and I!
Trix the Ga-Matoran and Wyn the Onu-Matoran!
Wyn is inspired by my friend’s new internship doing some excavation and archival in a local burial site, it made me realize she’d make a great Onu-Matoran! (Who’s also female because fuck arbitrary gender-locked elements)
And Trix is the character who inspired that Vahki post from a while back, she’s also trans (formerly a Le-Matoran hence the green mask and hips) While I said prior “fuck arbitrary gender-locked elements” I wasn’t sure on a way to integrate that best into my headcanon in a way that fit existing characters when I designed her a month ago, so I kept with the Le- and Ga-Matoran assigned genders (they aren’t locked anymore, probably post-reformation modification or Ignika shenanigans fixed that problem post-canon)
More Health Issues in Bionicle Headcanons
Zaktan probably had some lung damage from working in an unregulated protodermis mine, though, like the tinnitus, that was healed when he became a swarm of protodites.
The Onu-Matoran on Mata Nui probably have a bit of lung damage too, actually, although theirs is less severe since they probably at least TRIED to follow mining regulations on Mata Nui, although it probably took some time for Whenua to remember them all, since his specialty was the Archives. The lack of the probably more advanced equipment in they had in Metru Nui may have also made these regulations more difficult to apply. Taipu specifically probably has a bit more lung damage than the other Onu-Matoran because he does Onepu’s mining as well, and, being the strongest miner, he’s the most likely to dig through and hit a new, potentially hazardous material first.

Feeding a town like Meki-Koro is no small task. Thankfully, there are more than enough helping hands in the islands gardens and fields.

Begra, THE ONU-MATORAN WHO CAN FLY!
(He would have had a great time with Nuparu Inika) Begra was an Av-Matoran in my original canon, but the idea of an Onu-Matoran that can fly is just too juicy to pass.
His design is based on the Good Guy 2008:
DESCRIPTION
Delzak the Bounty Hunter Originally a mutated Onu-Matoran enslaved to a Vortixx Engineer, Delzak stole away with many of his master's designs to Nynrah, were he took out a loan and had several weapons commissioned based on the designs. He then returned to Xia and murdered his master with them. In the years since he has worked as a freelance bounty hunter, tracking down or killing criminals for organizations like the Dark Hunters or Brotherhood of Makuta, and has paid off his loans and used his rewards to buy more weapons and a hideout in the southern islands. He declined an offer to join the Dark Hunters, as he detested the idea of being ruled by anyone but himself.
