Kayla’s hands mindlessly tugged at the blanket she was wrapped in as she slept. When she felt another weight on the couch, her eyes blinked open, vision slightly weary. Gabe’s curls were the first thing she noticed as she woke a little more, watching as he curled up next to her on the couch. “Gabe, are you alright?” She asked him, her voice a sleepy kind of quiet. Normally, Kayla wasn’t one for physical contact, but she figured this time it wouldn’t hurt. “Okay, this time.” She told him, nodding softly before leaning her head back down in hopes to fall back asleep.

You make me curious. I like you. You’re the type of person that makes it really easy to laugh, but I wonder if that’s because it’s hard for you to laugh. To really laugh. Not just on the outside. They say the most unhappy people smile the most, and I’ve known that to be true. So, are you unhappy Gabe? I think you are. Why are you unhappy? What happened in your past? You can’t lie to me. You’ve got a past. I don’t know what it is, I don’t know if I’ll ever know, but I think you should know that it’s okay to have a past. I’ve got plenty of them.

This is random, but as I’m thinking about you, I also remember what you said your grandmother said – that you shouldn’t drink before noon unless it’s a Sunday, then you should start as soon as you wake up because Sundays are shit. I wonder how well you knew your grandmother. I wonder what you called her. I never got the chance to know my grandparents, any of them. I’ve seen them in passing before, spoke a few words here and there, gotten some birthday cards from them; but the only people in my family that I really know are my parents, and as much as I love them, I kind of wish there was more to them.

I think there is more to you, and I want to know what it is.
