It's so fucking difficult to write original stuff sometimes. Especially when it's a passion project and you want it to be so shiny and good and representative of the hundreds of hours of daydreaming you've done.
Sometimes I'll sit and think:
I'll put them in an airport or a department store—no, that's Station Eleven
so, okay, I'll have him die by allergy right when—no that's My Girl—after meeting with the cult who—no, that's The Walking Dead, and
what if I had her drop a cross necklace and he finds it, which—that's Dana fucking Scully in The X-Files during her abduction arc, actually.
Art is just a collage of all the other art the artist has consumed and loved. And I wish I could internalize that well enough to have it boost my confidence rather than using it like a weapon against myself.

April 4th, 2016 - Album Feature: Great American Canyon Band, Only You Remain.
The Great American Canyon Band // Lost at Sea
Great American Canyon Band
Paul and Krystal Mason of the Great American Canyon Band stopped by the office this week to talk about where they came from, play a short acoustic set and answer questions. Originally from Baltimore, the band has taken a wild ride through New England and the American South before eventually ending up in Chicago where they are currently stationed. The band takes Gram Parsons’ idea of “Cosmic American Music,” an amalgamation of blues, folk and rock and infuses with dreamy instrumentation.
The song “Tumbleweed” is the obvious standout on their latest EP—freely available via their Bandcamp—and was also the first song that the band performed for us as a husband and wife duo, without the other three members that typically accompany them live. Not lacking in vigor, the simplified set-up added to the intimacy of the performance and the lyrical content. They played several songs, one of which they used as the vows at their wedding and another which has yet to be released. As they explained where they and their songs came from, it was easy to see the draw of the down-to-earth band. As a group with roots in early American music, the Great American Canyon Band seems to understand both the honesty and mystique that have made the genre so long-lasting.

Enjoyable music worth the listen. Give them a try.
