Technically it was Killer who killed her brother so we never know if Alphonse has any plan for Dawa if he's still alive. Okay soo what if Alphonse meet up with his brother in law (ew that sounds so disgusting to say..) then actually manipulated him about his little sister is mentally ill (because in original story, Alphonse didn't acknowledge Dawa existent at all while planning to break Killer damn).
Most likely, Dawa was convinced Killer is mentally ill so let Alphonse to take care of Killer since he's the so called 'expert' (spoilers: he's not). So if you read sins of the virtues, the tower. Image that scene with Dawa and this guy won't let Alphonse do shit to Killer. So we got another outcome where Crescent and Angst are going to appear bit younger (alive Angst yay). Most likely Lux is going to appear too but Palette won't because Dawa will advise Cross to follow his heart, what he truly wanted. So Cross will left the gang to be with Dream. Lux is going to be the same age or 4 years older than Merciless because Dawa fucking keep Alphonse in check.
If you ask why don't Alphonse kill Dawa instead? He can't, if he did Killer definitely will kill herself.
