Pachacamac (named for the Incan Earth God Pach Kamaq) archeological site, has been a holy site for the indigenous cultures of Peru dating back more than a millennium before the Incas. Each successive culture added to the sanctuary, observable in the changing brick-building technology in each wall. When the Spanish came, they took over the site, assuming it would be filled with Incan treasure.
