Galaa’s First Full-Length Album “The Speech” Brings Honesty And Depth
https://ift.tt/2SVw4tg
Indie pop group Galaa brought their unique and honest sound to the next level with their latest single “Open Eyes” which can be heard on their album “The Speech” which hit music platforms February 15.
“The Speech” is Galaa’s first full length album. Lead singer Aley Waterman wrote the ten songs featured on the album and says “Open Eyes” was made to be a total pop song and then was dismantled in the studio.
“The song “Open Eyes” is about making a new friend, but it’s also about myth vs reality and the dangerous game of mythologizing people in our lives in order to create structure where structure maybe doesn’t exist,” said Waterman.
The six person band has been together since 2012. With this album they wanted to experiment and create something that hasn’t been done yet in the groups town Newfoundland.
“There’s a big gigging and jamming culture there (Newfoundland) that results in many musical projects which have a straightforward set of instruments,” said Waterman. “Band jams are so fun but we wanted to take our resources and really hone in on the sonic landscapes divorced from which instrument should appear where, there are even dishwasher sounds in there.”
Compared to the rest of the album, “Open Eyes” brings story vibes. The layers of the song bring depth and haunting, chill sounds. Waterman even mentions the group gave the song a lot of time to breath when structuring in the studio.
“We experimented a lot with layers and sounds, mosty sounds I was making with my mouth, to try and get something that ambled along in a way that felt dreamy but also like it was gaining momentum,” said Waterman.
Since the release of “The Speech” the group has received thanks and praise. Waterman mentions she loves having people write and tell them their song made their say.
“I love the feeling of hearing new music in the right complimentary setting, so it’s really nice to hear other people doing that with what we’ve made,” said Waterman.
At the moment, Galaa is unsure of what’s next on the band’s agenda however they are sure of their goal to make something honest, unique, sonically interesting and also beautiful.

Still taken from one of my videos.... both of these rebels were injured on June 7 2011. The one on the left escorted me through most of the day through the roads and up the hill. He told me when to duck, when to run and most importantly when to get the fuck down. He was shot in the shoulder.
The one on the right was the main machine gunner in my group going up the hill. He was shot in the leg.
