New Protectorate - in progress

As promised, some screenshots of the in-progress build of the New Protectorate.

There's a little more above - the Archive and the Shadow Delegate rooms - but my computer was starting to cry so I left it at this. Also none of the images have been neatened so they overlap, because it took me longer than I'd like to remember how to take lol-big screenies.

But it's there! and it's big! and I made that since Feb of last year!

And it's still not finished 🙃️😆️

No, I don't know what to put in that last room, and I still have to figure out exactly how I want to do the garden dome, but gods it's so close to being done.

Novakid Delegate Enclave

Novakid are such a joy - yet their flightiness and poor impulse control do make life challenging at times. The Novakid delegation, bearing the intrinsically typical traits of their race, eventually gave up on trying to organise builders or send plans over. Instead, they asked me to take control of what their enclave would look like.

I must confess some personal feelings towards how it looks. When I was still a student at the Terrene Protectorate, my girlfriend would often describe to me in detail how her childhood home looked, and how she might one day decorate a home of her own. So in her honour, I did just that.

Human Delegate Enclave

Ah, humans. The people who started this project - literally, in the sense of those in the encampment below, and figuratively, as in the visionaries at the Terrene Protectorate.

Those from the encampment below I asked to represent their race where reluctant and self-effacing at first, which told me they'd do a better job than some blaggards I met in the Academy...

When I gave them the catalog of fittings to look through they were like second-stage spawn given a bigger tank - excitedly pointing out what they thought looked best and delighted when I said money was no object. I may have also added one or five pictures to help them feel more at home...

I'm very much looking forward to bringing their race back onto the galactic stage, unified and refreshed, as it should be.

New Protectorate progress update

Despite not being able to take massive screenshots anymore 😮‍💨️ I still wanted to show off my progress so far in one big image, so I've hacked together the previous massive image I took with shots of the individual rooms completed recently:

The gap between the utilities and the memorial hall is going to be half storage (above the water treatment plant), but I'm not sure what to put on the other side.

The gap below the recruit dorms is going to be half training rooms and half lecturer apartments.

I still don't know how I'm going to make the central assembly hall...

The delegate rooms for Human, Hylotl, Novakid, Penguin, and Frogg are all still to-do.

There's another layer above the archive and classrooms, which I'm blanking on ideas for at the moment, and then above that is the garden dome which is still to fill with grass and trees and nature.

Also I discovered the Elithian Races mod has background doors that can be linked together, so I'm strongly considering replacing all those stairs with linked doorways to save on climbing...

The Memorial Hall

While my Father was the whimsical one of my parents, my Mother's practical advice has rather more stuck with me. She used to say we could allow ourselves to be defined by the past, but we must never let it rule us.

The whole edifice of the New Protectorate is testament to that fact; that I have learnt from the lessons of the past, fought for them, built on them. But one must, from time to time, stop to acknowledge one's origins.

That is what I hope to achieve here with this Memorial Hall. That one might use this space and the grace it provides, and take a moment to reflect on where we once were. To reflect on how far we have come, and that which we had to fight to get here.

We shall give thanks for our forebears, and build a brighter future with the skill they have given us.

Frögg Delegate Enclave

Mind your step, please - despite my best efforts to keep the place warm, steam to keep the Fröggs' skin from drying out tends to condense at the extremities of the enclave, rendering the floor a slipping hazard to those not of an aquatic nature.

Despite learning the Frögg sign language, I'm still mystified by how their race organises itself. I know they are fully cogent about their reason for being here and that they are fully willing to execute their duties on behalf their race. They've not been shy about sharing much of their culture, about their fascination of items from other races and how they delight in decorating their homes in a smorgasbord of such. Yet I cannot fathom how, without apparent light-speed comms or spacecraft, they can communicate between their diaspora. And they are not inclined to reveal this either.

Regardless, they are a stalwart race, disposed to fully deliberated thought in their considerations. They are excellent teachers, patient as the wave that crumbles the cliff. And they value clarity - of their own place here, of our collective purpose, and of ensuring that all are aware of everything that is transpiring in regards to it.

Truly, a venerated people.
