The Memorial Hall

While my Father was the whimsical one of my parents, my Mother's practical advice has rather more stuck with me. She used to say we could allow ourselves to be defined by the past, but we must never let it rule us.

The whole edifice of the New Protectorate is testament to that fact; that I have learnt from the lessons of the past, fought for them, built on them. But one must, from time to time, stop to acknowledge one's origins.

That is what I hope to achieve here with this Memorial Hall. That one might use this space and the grace it provides, and take a moment to reflect on where we once were. To reflect on how far we have come, and that which we had to fight to get here.

We shall give thanks for our forebears, and build a brighter future with the skill they have given us.

Mass Teleporter Room

I got on a bit of a roll after building the Memorial Hall, so here is the place where many people can teleport in all at once. It's directly below where the main assembly hall will be, making it very convenient to bring in attendees.

If that 'outpost style letters' mod still existed I would have like to written out 'Welcome to the Galactic Protectorate' but alas.

Avian Delegate Enclave

Before I start this log, please don't misunderstand my intentions. I have a great deal of respect for Avians, and have always found them kind and generous people.

That, however, was until I had to work with the group picked by my crew. There were... a rather great deal of cultural and communications issues. Their leader was... exacting to the point of micromanagement with the building of their enclave. The position was wrong, we had the wrong bricks, the tapestries had to be in perfect alignment... Several times I was run ragged with the exhaustion of having to settle arguments between the Delegation and the builders, one side upset their wishes hadn't been taken into account, and then other fed up with the nitpicking of every detail.

As you can see, understandings were reached along the way and the enclave has been finished.

But this has served to remind me that there will always be clashes and misunderstandings, however innocuous their base reason. As much as I would like to look into the future with sun-sparkling eyes and think that what I'm building here will send us in a utopia, this has shown me there will always be a struggle.

I still believe in the mission inspired by the Terrene Protectorate (may the seabed give it eternal rest). But to make this glorious future a reality, we must remember: there has to be patience, willingness to understand, and compromise.

I just hope I have what it takes...

Alpaca Delegate Enclave

Unlike the Aragrans and Shadow, the Alpacas wasted no time in taking up my offer of a place on the New Protectorate Council.

I sent two of the guards who've been living in the Altais colony along with two of my crew to speak at the Alpaca afþin, thinking it would take hours of the best persuasive oration. In the end, after outlining the NP's mission, the vote passed with an overwhelming majority.

I had one meeting with the delegation team and construction foreman and then they were off, directing the fittings for their rooms, including many pieces carved by their own kind, especially for these rooms.

The top three levels are for their personal use: Bedrooms, kitchen, sitting room, weapons training, and "missives" room. The lower two levels are more official: Meeting room, breakout room, welcome hall, and teleporter room.

I feel we will learn many things from the Alpacas' forthright manner and their practical ways. There's still a long way to go with building the NP, but I feel more confident now I have the Alpacas on side.

The Rendezvous Point

Next to the Mass Teleport Room, we have a a bistro serving hot food, cold drinks and a respite from the rigors of traveling. Grab a coffee, freshen up, and continue on your way reinvigorated.
