In case anyone doesn’t like playing Rogue Squadron Galactic Starfighter, just a reminder that TORCommunity does have an optimal builds page. It hasn’t been updated since last year, but I don’t think GSF has changed too much in the last year as far as builds on ships go.
How would you compare Corellan's flying abilities to his descendant Corran? Also does Corellan prefer the larger light corvette or starfighters for space combat?
Honestly i probably wouldn’t. Corran Horn was a dedicated starfighter pilot for much of his career, first as a CorSec officer, and later as a Jedi. Corellan is good, but he’s not quite in the league of someone like Bas’riish, for example.
(I reserve the right to adjust this opinion if i ever actually try to play Galactic Starfighter. )
Thanks for the ask!

villainship replied to your post “Sometimes I want like 200 points for conquest and then i queue for GSF...”
Lolll oops. Sounds like you pulled it together tho. I've never known where to start with GSF! -R
GSF is a very steep learning curve! Half of it is getting the right ship upgrades and the other half is learning the mechanics, while hoping not to crash into a rock or satelite. A friend in swtor has gotten me hooked on GSF and I’m determined to beat the learning curve and one day be good!
As for starting out, I personally started with a bomber. They are more friendly to people who aren’t familiar with the gsf aiming and are the slowest turning ship so you don’t get motion sick. Downside of being slow turning, they are also the slowest out of the four ships to get to point A.
You want to go for the bomber which actually drop bombs that self-detonate when hostile ships brush within their radius. I personally thought playing the warcarrier(pub)/BD-4 Legion(imp) was the easiest out of the three bombers with its nice kit for supporting your team, and keeping yourself alive if you hide your drones away from sniping eyes. Your goal as a warcarrier/legion is to hide your bombs and drones and let people wander into your trap. I find it’s also a great ship, if you’re unfamiliar with the game and you get the satelite game to guard a satelite and run around dropping bombs.
My build that I used for my pub toon for the warcarrier: (tagged for long post since sheesh my fingers went off)
Components:
Primary Weapon: Heavy cannon - (rank 4 upgrade: improved tracking and critical chance, rank 5 upgrade: shield piercing)
Secondary Weapon: Seeker mines - (rank 4 upgrade: can take either, rank 5 upgrade: additional active mine)
Reactor: Large Reactor (large shield pool against snipers)
Sensors: Range Sensors
Crew (Warcarrier/Pub side):
Co-pilot: I would either go for Aric Jorgan or Sergeant Rusk for their co-pilot abilities.
Offensive: You want someone with rapid reload for your bombs to drop faster, so choice of either Aric Jorgan or Sergeant Rusk. I excluded B-3G9, Corso Riggs and HK-51 since their second bonuses is kind of bad because as a warcarrier, you have no use for accuracy or firing arc degree increase (these perks are for helping to aim, but you have little use in aiming except where your ship is dropping bombs).
Defensive: While evasion is definitely a better state than damage reduction, as a warcarrier you’re more than likely to be hiding away from sight so damage reduction will help against snipers... gunships (since they are your weakness). So Guss or M1-4X are good options for damage reduction and a bonus to your shields. Doc would be a decent option if you want to rely on your shields.
Tactical: Only best option is Lord Scourge. You want sensor radius (detects who’s around you 360 on the minimap) and communication range (helps your team detect who’s around you on the map)
Engineering: C2-N2 is the best since you want more engine power to get away from chasing people and lowered cost of engine abilities.
Crew (B4-D Legion/Imp Side):
Co-pilot: I would personally pick Mako as co-pilot, since her evasion bonus will help you and your team. Tbh, the co-pilot bonuses with the crew you selected on imp side really suck for a Legion. >_>
Offensive: I would either go for MZ-12 or Skadge (shudder) because of their bonuses listed.
Defensive: I would go with Broonmark or Xalek for damage reduction and a perk to shields, Writch Hurley is an option if you want to have two shield bonuses rather than damage reduction/
Tactical: Only option is Mako with her sensor radius (detects who’s around you 360 on the minimap) and communication range (helps your team detect who’s around you on the map) perks.
Engineering: The best option is Blizz, since he gives you both engine perks.
Basically with your focus on bomb and drone placement so you maximise your damage output or utility for your team, your focus is to keep yourself alive by keeping yourself tucked away, or running around an asteroid like a chicken, protect your satelite (if it’s glowing green as shown in the gsf tutorial) and to be backup on your team when they charge in.
Also, the best bet is to keep an eye on your map and your ops chat. GSF is a team game, much like most end-game content. Even if you hold off a satelite on your own, it means nothing if you don’t have the support of your team.
I’m not a pro, and there’s various builds of the warcarrier. I think once you’ve familiarised yourself with the game, branch out with the other ships. All ships are viable, Gunships are your aiming snipers, bombers are your slow but durable choke point holders, strike fighters are jack of all trades and scouts are the dogfighters (which motion sickness for newer players). Though some ships have a higher learning curve than others. There’s an updated guide (link here) for the other ships and their builds should you wish to try them.
As I said, I’m still learning GSF, but if people with more expertise have any pointers or changes to the build and advice for the warcarrier/Legion, I would like to hear them! :D
I backfilled into a GSF match that was nearly over. I was in a gunship and found an enemy ship that was nearly dead, so I took my shot and finished it off. Match ended soon afterwards.
And thanks to that one shot being successful, I got both the “Crack Shot” and “Deadeye” achievements.. which I will probably not get again for quite a while, if ever.
