Valentines Weekend

Personally I don’t understand the massive excitement over this weekend. In my view its just an excuse for all the shops to take in the extra money. Its the opportunity to see which women are in a relationship for love and/or the money. I cant be the only person which thinks that if you love someone you should express it constantly? Not on just one day of the year? 

Okay, yes it is important to make a small effort, to acknowledge that this is the weekend of love and yeah okay maybe if my boyfriend hadn’t got me a card and a box of chocolates I would have been a tad pissed, but does it really need to go much further?

Is the point of Valentines Day to express your love or to just spend obscene sums of money and throw gifts at someone in the hope you get laid that evening? Hey, my guy got lucky 3 times, 4 if you count the morning after… all from a box of chocolates and a card. No, I’m not easy if that’s what you are thinking, I’m quite high maintenance like most girls, but seriously if you love someone-its the though that counts.

Moving onto the singles. Just please stop posting on social media about how you will be spending the night with Ben and Jerry. No, its not funny. No, its not original. No, no one cares. It is unlucky that you happen to be alone on this evening; guys consider yourself lucky you get to keep your wallets in tact, girls be thankful you aren’t getting drunk and screwed by yet another player. Face facts please, this is not a life changing day in your social calendar. People will not judge you on whether you went out or stayed in.

On a personal level this was my favourite valentines. I’ve done both extremes. I had the boyfriend cook me dinner, have his best friend be a waiter and had the expensive jewellery. I had the boyfriend invite his friends around smoke an insane amount of weed , cooked them all dinner and gone to bed. So I’ve had the pampered valentines and the no effort valentines and to be honest this one has been my favourite because I got to spend time with my guy, my family and his. Valentines Day is a day for sharing love, appreciating everybody in your life whether it be your partner, family or friends- so please everyone get over the commercial hype and appreciate what’s right in front of you.
