Hi. You wanna write bro time on The Last Ship between Chandler and Slattery? If you want something more specific, maybe something from that one episode where they were running out of water?

oh it has been so long since I’ve watched that show, I miss the ship dads. so uh y’know sorry if it’s ooc? at least I intended for these to be short anyway!

“We got the barrels filled, right?”

Slattery cracked one eye open. squinting up at the mass of blue uniform above him. He scoffed lightly.

“Twice over. Gonna lose a little with the purifying process, but it’ll be more than enough to hold us over until the James’ system catches up.”

Chandler grunted. It was his wary, there must be something else to do grunt, and Slattery sat up fully with a sigh.

“Samples are safe,” he said, for what felt like the tenth time, “everyone’s got water, and we’ll be out of here by dawn. Have you even sat down since we landed?”

“Been a little busy,” Chandler said immediately, and that got another quick sigh.

“Oh my God, Tom, sit down.”

Chandler did laugh, at least, and his posture loosened a little. “Is that an order, XO?”

Slattery let his eyes roll. “I will stage a coup if necessary, but I’ve told you, I really don’t want that chair.”

It took a moment for Chandler to concede, but there was an immediate weariness in his shoulders when he did finally sit that was proof it had been more necessary than he’d let on. Not that that was surprising; he’d always been the first one up and the last to rest even before the world had ended.

At least he still occasionally listened to reason without too much complaining.

“So.” Slattery glanced over at him, knew his grin was tired, and decided it didn’t matter. “Think they’ll let us retire when we get home?”

Chandler scoffed. “I wouldn’t hold your breath. Seems we’re a little short-staffed at the moment.”

“Yeah, but maybe if we ask really nicely.”

That earned him a very professional elbow in the side. “I’ll leave the asking to you, then.”

Of course, getting home was the struggle first.

Neither of them had to mention that.

It’s super fun, like I said, if you like Kingsman and/or Deadpool, it’s very much the same vein of humor.

The R rating is like, entirely for violence and language (and it earns it) with plenty of gunfights and Samuel L Jackson swearing very loudly all the time “WHY ARE WE ALWAYS SHOUTING” and Ryan Reynolds is phenomenal, like this man has found his niche in acting. Michael is very much a Deadpool-type character, standing around chatting casually with a vendor who’s hiding behind his stall because there’s a ridiculous gunfight happening across the street, and Michael just happily going, “Y’know, I hope they kill him, I really do”

like I don’t want to spoil things because it’s a delight to be surprised by, but it’s pretty much just

magical, with excessive violence and Samuel L Jackson swearing very loudly all the time.

and people should definitely see it.

Mmmk. This is good info. Now about the violence. I'm not really one to care about excessive swearing. At most, I'll roll my eyes. But what level of violence are we talking about? Like Kingsman church scene level of violence or Kingsman head popping scene level of violence?

ehhhh I’d say like, regular spy/action movie violence for the most part (nothing as dramatic and ridiculous as the head popping scene that I can remember), but occasionally church scene level.

Like someone breaks a guy’s arm and you can see the bone, there’s a nail gun to the forehead at one point, some strangling with a chain, one guy gets stabbed through the hand with a pen...

The majority is what you might expect of a R-rated action movie. Lots of people getting shot and lots of hand-to-hand stuff. The church-scene-type bits are fewer and further between, but they do happen

“So, it was you.”

Tex looked up from his plate, eyebrows rising when Scott sat down across from him. She didn’t have any food, so it seemed like she had come specifically looking for him.

Well, that had taken a little longer than expected.

Still, he couldn’t resist the urge to play dumb a little while longer.

“You caught me,” he said, hands lifting in mock surrender. “I bribed Bacon for the extra scoop of beans. Couldn’t help it, Doc, they’re so much nicer than chewin’ on rocks.”

Scott just sighed impatiently, pulling up her sleeve to show him what he already very well knew was there – the small, dark, string of zeros that he was now thoroughly convinced had stopped moving the moment she walked into the small infirmary a few days ago.

“It was you,” she repeated.

She’d avoided him for a while. Or, hell, maybe she’d just been busy, what with the whole ‘saving the world’ thing, but Tex hadn’t actually seen the woman for more than a few seconds since then. But she’d still pieced it together, just like he had.

He shrugged, resisting the urge to scratch at his arm where a bandage was still covering his own numbers. “Seems pretty likely.”

Scott shook her head. She was still watching him closely, and Tex wasn’t sure what to do with this level of scrutiny. “More than likely,” she said. “You’re the first new person I’ve seen in five months. I’ve met the entire crew, see them every single day, and nothing happened. Now we have you.”

Tex rolled his shoulders quickly. Now that the conversation was actually happening, he had no idea how to handle it. Maybe should’ve planned more. Not that it would’ve done any good, he didn’t know a thing about Scott and it wasn’t like she knew anything about him.

He put down his fork after a moment and held out his hand.

“Ken Nolan,” he said. It’d been a long damn time since he’d actually used his first name. “Everyone calls me Tex.”

There was a pause. Then she nodded, her handshake firm.

“Rachel Scott. But you already knew that.”

Tex chuckled. “Technically. Feels a little more official this time.”

He could see something uncertain in the way she leaned on the table, the grip on her arms a little tighter than necessary. “So what does that mean?”

And wasn’t that the question of the day? Tex shrugged again.

“Well I figure nothing if you don’t want it to. Plenty of folks ignore the damn things, y’know, feels kinda…arbitrary sometimes.”

“I do…” Scott hesitated before letting out a slow breath. “There is someone. I’m not even sure he’s alive, there hasn’t been any contact from any mainland in weeks, but…”

“There’s a chance.” Tex offered a small smile, and if it looked as tired as it felt, he figured he could blame it on the seasickness. “No hard feelings there, Doc, believe me; I’m gonna be looking for someone myself if we ever make it to the States.”

Granted, Kathleen was in a bit of a different category. He’d clear that up later, if it came up.

“Either way,” he noted, picking up his fork again and spearing a slice of sausage, “we’re kinda stuck on this boat for the foreseeable future. Bit of small talk couldn’t hurt, right?”

She actually smiled a little. It was the first Tex had seen from her, and he took a little pride in the accomplishment.

“I suppose it couldn’t.”

That could be a start, at least.
