Summary: Reader and Ominis have been childhood friends since forever. When Imelda starts bragging about finding a date, you start to panic. Wanting to find a date before her. With a little help of Sebastian, Ominis dares to ask you out for the Yule ball. Finally realizing how caring and considerate you've always been towards him.
“I bet I will be the first to strike a date. I practically have men falling for my feet.” Imelda boosted her ego with a sneer. “Oh, then where are they?” You held your hand up, looking around. Some other girls were snickering loud. “Laugh all you want, Malfoy!” Imelda stomped her foot angrily on the ground.
“I’ll out-best you, just like I do in everything.” She crossed her arms with a sarcastic huff. Rolling with your eyes, you let her be in her delusional. Clearly she forgot how you broke her flying record a few weeks ago. She was practically fuming for days.
Noticing the boys were coming down, you waved Imelda goodbye. Hurrying over to Sebastian and Ominis. “You boys will help me out won’t you?” You asked, not giving them the chance to properly greet you. “I’m all ears.” Sebastian replied, winking at you that he was up to any mischievous you proposed to him.
Glancing to your side to Imelda, you grabbed both of them by their shirt. “Hey!” They both called out as you dragged them out of the common room. Outside you let go of them. Sebastian caught Ominis before he could lose his balance. “Next time a fair warning.” Ominis called out, holding his wand up. “Oh, sorry Ominis.” You quickly apologized, having forgotten for a second he was blind.
Sebastian cleared his throat, arms crossed. “So what is this you are secretive about?” He began, wanting to know more. You took a deep breath before spilling. “I…I need you two to help me find a date.” Sebastian turned his head to Ominis with a frightful glance. “I’m sorry what?” Ominis responded in a loud tone.
“For the yule ball.” You cleared up. Seeing how both boys were gawking dumbfounded at you. “The yule ball! The dance that is being held next week!” Getting frantic that they clearly had no care for it. “Oh, that thing.” Sebastian said causally. “Why are you stressing over it?” He wanted to know.
“I’m not going to lose to Imelda. You’ll have to help me score a date before she does.” You outed already looking around. “Do you know any boys?” Wanting their intel about certain boys. Sebastian cleared his throat, subtly turning his head to Ominis.
Trying to hide it from you as Ominis could feel the stare burning at him. Ominis swallowed nervously, turning his gaze away. “What do you think of Amit? Everett? Garreth?" You started to list them off. “Now hold on!” Sebastian pitched in, taking your hands.
Lowering them so you could stop counting on your fingers. “Garreth?” Ominis called out, making Sebastian and you both stare at him. “Garreth? You think about Garreth? Might as well ask Duncan which is ridiculous!”
Furrowing your brows, you weren’t sure what he was getting so worked up about. Ominis moved his wand up with a huff. “I’m going to class.” He outed, brushing past you. Confused, you looked back at Sebastian, hoping he could shed some light on it. Sebastian only pulled his shoulders up.
“Maybe don’t think so hard about it, Malfoy.” Ruffling his hands through your hair to mess it up. Groaning loud, you pushed his hand down. Snickering loud, he went to go after Ominis. You went the other direction, trying to break your head open on which boy would ask you.
“Om…Ominis.” Sebastian panted out, catching up with him. “I can’t believe her. Garreth? She wants to go with Garreth.” Ominis called out annoyed. “She was just listing. It’s not even sure if any of them would actually ask her.” Sebastian responded, falling in step with him. Ominis slapped his hand against Sebastian’s chest to stop him.
“What if they do? What if someone is asking her right now while we’re not around.” The slight panic rising in his voice. “You are being ridiculous.” Sebastian rubbed his chest. Ominis started to mumble to himself. “Look if you are so frightened, why don’t you ask her yourself?” Sebastian offered.
Ominis turned his head in Sebastian’s direction. “Are you bloody mental?” He called out. “She’ll never see me as anything but a friend.” Lowering his head, knowing the truth. “If you don’t ask, you won’t ever know. Maybe she would love to go with you?” Sebastian answered, trying to pep talk his friend up.
“How?” Ominis let out. Sebastian sighed soft. “You’ll just need my help.” Swinging an arm around him. Ominis gulped, not sure how this ‘help’ would benefit him.
You sat by the fountains, reading a book. Ominis looked over his shoulder, knowing Sebastian was hiding somewhere there. Sebastian moved his hands for him to hurry up. Even though Ominis couldn’t see Sebastian’s ridiculous gestures, he could imagine him doing something teasingly. Softly clearing his throat, approaching you.
“Y/n.” He spoke. Looking up from your book, you curled up a smile. “Ominis.” Calling out as you shut your book. Throwing your legs over the edge, you made some room for him to sit. Taking him by his arm, you helped him sit down by your side. “Y/n…” He repeated, very nervous about his next words. Trying to remember what Sebastian had told him.
“About…about that date?” He went on. You set your hand down on his knee with a gasp. “Have you found someone?” Eager to know who wanted to ask you. “What? No…no” He let out, waving his hand across. “Oh…” you spoke softly, turning your gaze away. Ominis could just tell Sebastian was glaring his way.
“I…I have.” He blurted out. “You do?” The enthusiasm had returned to you, making you grab for his arm. Ominis cleared his throat again, feeling a bit ashamed as to what he was about to say now. It felt out of character but if Sebastian suggested it would help, he would happily push that boundary.
“You know why settle for someone mediocre when you can go with me.” Finishing as his heart nearly thumped out of his chest. “You?” You spoke with slightly furrowed brows. “Yes…me…” Feeling suddenly less confident. “I…I…mean we’ve known each other all our lives now. I thought it would be nice for you to go with someone you know.” He continued.
You immediately pulled your hand away, getting up. “So this is out of pity?” Confused by his words and slightly offended. “No!” Ominis called out, getting up as well. Reaching for your wrist. Fingers around it, he held you in place. “That…that is not what I meant…”
“Then what do you mean Ominis?” Not following one bit from it. Ominis took a deep breath. “I’d like to go with you to the yule ball. Not out of pity, but because I really want to.” Throwing Sebastian’s advice out of the door and simply say what felt close to heart. “If I may, I’d like to ask you for the yule ball.” He finished, fumbling a bit with your fingers from the nerves.
“You want to go with me?” Asking again as you needed it to be confirmed one more time. Ominis hummed loud with a nod. Curling up a smile, you held him by his arms. “I’d love to.” Adding a little kiss against his cheek for confirmation. Ominis stumbled back down on the edge of the fountain. Flustered by the kiss.
Sebastian was adjusting Ominis' bowtie. His gaze fell on the staircase behind Ominis. Gasping in wonder at your appearance at the top. Nervously, you fidgeted with your necklace. Looking nervously down, till your gaze met up with Sebastian. Curling up a smile as your nerves melted like snow.
Smiling, you went down the stairs. “I wish you could see her.” Sebastian said in awe. Ominis had turned himself around, wand up. “I think I can.” He responded in wonder. You went over to them. “You look beautiful Y/n.” Sebastian complimented you. It made you smile shyly. “You sure do.” Ominis blurted out as it made you chuckle. “You haven’t even seen the dress, you silly.”
Plucking his wand from him, you gave it to Sebastian for a moment. Taking both his hands then to guide it towards your dress. Telling him the colour as you guided his hands over the shape. Explaining it in detail. Then you moved his hands to your hair, allowing him to touch it. To take in every detail of you in his mind.
Ominis was in awe of how considerate you always were. “Beautiful.” He complimented still bashful. Sebastian offered him his wand back. Taking Ominis by the arm, you guided him inside. Explaining the decor to him so he could enjoy it too. Elbowing a few people to make sure they wouldn’t bump into him. Leading him to a spacious spot on the dancefloor.
You held his hand with his wand in it. Moving his other hand to your lower back. “Don’t worry, I’ll let you know in time when we are drifting away.” Speaking with a chuckle. Ominis was silent, bathing in your kindness. As if only realizing now how considerate and caring you were to him. Always had been. “Shall I lead?” You offered. Ominis shook his head. “I’ll lead.”
Smiling, you stepped back, following the movement of his feet. Feeling overjoyed with the waltz, you were sharing. Ominis spun you around, smiling upon hearing your laughter. Hear how much you were enjoying this. Taking you by your lower back again, he guided you further into the waltz.
Sebastian lurking around. Gently nudging people aside whenever Ominis felt like getting close to bumping into them. “Is it just me or are people around us disappearing?” He questioned. You simply laughed, looking back at Sebastian, throwing you a wink. “That’s nothing for us to worry about.” You reassured him, spinning him around.
Ominis stumbled over his feet, clutching hard onto you. Cracking up a laugh at his own clumsiness. The music faded out as the both of you slowed down. Ominis furrowed his brows, getting aware of something. He looked up.
“Is that a mistletoe?” Questioning the clear plant that had appeared out of nowhere. Sensing the change with his wand. You looked up as well with curiosity. “It appears so…” You muttered out. “You know what they say Y/n, if you ignore a mistletoe it means 10 years of bad luck.” Ominis spoke.
“That’s not!” You called back. Looking around for anyone who might have casted the mistletoe. “Who’s to say. It’s just a plant anyways.” Ominis shrugged his shoulders with little care. Swallowing nervously, you truly didn’t want any bad luck.
Your eyes narrowed onto the crowd, seeing Sebastian chuckle to himself. Glaring hard at him, you knew it was him who conjured it. Looking back at the plant and down to Ominis, you suddenly felt extremely shy. “Want me to get rid of it?” Ominis suggested, holding his wand up.
“No!” Pulling his hand hard down. Ominis smirked from ear to ear. “Oh.” He simply let out. “Then no bad luck for us.” He added, moving his hands to your cheeks. Cupping them as he pulled you closer. Kissing your lips sweetly. Moving your hands around him, you went along with his kiss. Maybe secretly thanking Sebastian for the opportunity.
