This is quite painful. Despite having such a short amount of time, I still want to make the game fun to mess around in. So in this game, weapons will have combos with some other attacks. Try them all out to see what happens! Tumblr broke the image. I will make a video tomorrow. For now I am tired.
So a good bit I was reworking my code to make this work again. I had it working in the past, as shown off, but I was very dissatisfied with what I had done and how I coded it. Now? It’s cleaner, smoother, has new animation, sprites are changed to look a little sleeker. Smog heart looks like an actual smog heart. While not shown in here, half heart was also redone. No more effects on it!
Small update to a larger update. I added a pause to Merlin’s moveset so that when you hit something you can think about what you want to do next. Not all attacks do this, of course, just the strong ones.
E3 screwed me over a little with progress, but I’ve been working on it! In this video I show off the stuff I’ve been working on.
For starters, I had to re-code Merlin’s attack to take in enemy immunity, defense and their state. Enemies who are defending can’t be hurt from the side they are defending from.
Enemies that are immune to your attacks will have their own symbol and also glow white/yellow when hit.
Red means you are dealing damage and Blue means you aren’t dealing any damage because their defense is too high. I hope to make it look better for the blue colors. I am also working on status effects like poisoned and frozen.
So much stuff is subject to change.
Moving to GM 8.1
So I’ve decided I need a higher framerate, thus moving to GM 8.1.
Why not Studio? Because I don’t like it’s ideology of “sandbox”. It doesn’t let me use local files without some crazy mumbo-jumbo, so I don’t use it. So, now I have a working skeletal snimation for GM 8.1 at about 120-150 FPS. Also, a lot higher resolution (up to 1920 by 1080 without loosing too many FPS).
Here are some new enemies! They certainly have a bit of a groove to them huh? They all plan on getting in Merlin’s way alongside some other enemies I won’t be showing off. Their smog form, however... maybe.
