I think it is kind of weird that the Gamelands are only based on video games since those are a relatively new media. If I could write it I would say the "video game" area is one part of the Gamelands and the other areas are based on other types of games: TTRPGs, Chess, etc.

I think that makes a lot of sense!

I have a feeling that the main reason they made it video game based was to appeal to what kids today usually play. And since one of Eugene's main interests is video games it fit what they were going for.

But I agree that there are many other types of games that could have been incorporated into different areas of the Gamelands! There are so many games--so many types of games even--so it would be fun to see those incorporated.

I think an ideal version of the Gamelands would be one that constantly changes and incorporates new types of games as they become more popular. So the video game area skyrocketed in the past several decades, but classic board games like Chess would be prominent too (with the different pieces coming alive perhaps?). Puzzle areas where you have to solve the puzzle/riddle to escape (kind of like an escape room but with higher stakes if you lose). An area where the floor turns into lava at random and you have to climb to safety at the first warning. A fantasy TTRPG area where you ability to do certain tasks literally hinges on a dice roll (that you may or may not be in control of). Older games and games lost to time would have smaller, possibly abandoned areas in the gamelands where theoretically you could go and pick up the rules, but it's mostly forgotten.

So many games! So many possibilities! If anyone's got more ideas, I'd love to hear them!
