Hello! Day 2 of my report for the Game Off 2018!

Today I continue to work on the Pixel Art for my game!

I've create some flowers...

And some seeds...

I don't know wich flower can hybrid with other but for now I've some art!

And I've start to write some function to work with some 2D table!

Dungeon Philosopher release

Dynamic tilesystem is done! It took fucking ages. It pretty much just iterates through every tile and checks the tiles adjacent to it, and depending on its surroundings the tile is given a different image.

The sprite atlas for it looks like this. The top four shapes are a remnant from when I thought I could get away with 36 sprites. After realising that that was complete fantasy, the last four rows are me just jamming shit wherever it fits.

I also realised about halfway through that it would be a lot less pain if I just dynamically generated each of the individual wall segments. I ended up doing this for the shadows, and implementing them took around 20 minutes.

It’s probably around time I actually explained what this is.

You play as a goblin philosopher recently enlightened to the barbarism of your fellow dungeon denizens. You have taken it upon yourself to convince the dungeon realsm of the benefits of pacifism over violence, not through the usual monstorous method of bashing the heads in of everyone who disagrees with you, but through logical thought and argumentation.

In gameplay terms, this translates into firing arrows or “thoughts“ at your opponents, while they’re doing the same to you, and trying to hit their vulnerable center. The geometry of the battlefield is particularly important, as thoughts can bounce and ricochet off the terrain.

With Midnight released I can finally get back to working on other stuff. But, gameoff 2018 is on right now, so maybe i’ll throw together a quick roguelike before I return to my bigger projects :)

So yeah, for the past couple days I’ve been working on a random map generator for said roguelike. This is what I’ve got so far. Seems to be generating some pretty cool stuff.
