oh wow I’ve never read the book since I’m not much of a reader but…does it really have that intense of an undertone to it?
gamerboy385 asked you: What did the writer do to women in the book that made you so unomfortable?
geggin replied to your post: I found my copy of I Am Legend the other day, and...
Huh I never knew the I am Legend book was like that. Is there just a lot of anti-woman subtext or something?
I was INCREDIBLY uncomfortable reading this book! The main character is described as being an extremely fit 230 lbs (many times. So many lines about his strong powerful legs!!), despite spending nearly every day getting drunk and being described as becoming out of breath in normal situations.
It gets a little uncomfortable almost immediately
wait, first you need to be aware that it's not zombies in the book, it's vampires.
so I'm just going to type up some lines from the first pages of the books.
"It was the women who made it so difficult, he thought, the women posing like lewd puppets in the night on the possibility that he'd see them and decide to come out."
"[...]then he'd think about the women. Deep in his body, the knotting heat began again and he pressed his lips together until they were white. He knew the feeling well and it enraged him that he couldn't combat it."
"all the words of centuries couldn't end the worthless, mindless craving of his flesh. The realization made him sick. It was an insult to man."
and then he lays in bed, gets angry thinking about the women and instead dry humps his sheets to the thought of his wife.
At this point, okay, the guy is obsessed with sex. Not THAT big of a deal I guess the author is trying to make a point
except not much later in the book, he goes around breaking into houses and thinks about violating some of the women vampires in their sleep while he stands over them with a stake in his hands. Just how lewd are these women managing to be while they're asleep to ~force~ him into feeling that way? Were the women outside of his house before actually doing anything besides standing there or was it his overactive imagination.
Later in the book he gets angry at a woman for adjusting her robe. Well. His robe. around her legs. She's a tiny person, he's tall and 230 lbs! He goes on at length about how irritating that "typical pointless female gesture is" and how he's not attracted to her, his sex drive is dead now.
Also he spent four pages chasing her across a field, ignoring the fact that he was frightening her (while thinking about how he was frightening her) thinking about her long bronze legs in great detail while he chased her and also because she was running away from him, he tore her dress, after chasing her across the great big field, yelled at her in a voice devoid of human warmth, the author says.
"with a snarl of rage he drove his right palm across her face. She staggered back, then looked at him dizzily. Abruptly she started crying helplessly. She sank to her knees before him, holding her arms over her head as if to ward off further blows.
Neville stood there gasping, looking down at her cringing form. [...] "Get up,"he said. "I'm not going to hurt you."
She didn't raise her head. He looked down confusedly at her. He didn't know what to say.
"I said I'm not going to hurt you," he said again." )
and took her home. And then he locked her in his bedroom for her own good because she wouldn't stop crying. (Because someone a foot taller than her hit her and dragged her to his home. A town away.) He stands over her comatose body and handles her necklace and gets angry when she asks what he is doing. He yelled at her when she tried to leave 'for being unreasonable', forced her to drink alcohol to "calm her down" while telling himself that it was for her own good. He forces her to stay even though she repeatedly asks to leave, and shoves anti-vampire things in her face (garlic, etc) to make sure she's not trying to trick him (buddy, you chased her down... she doesn't want to be there?) and then tells her she has to stay and submit to a blood test. She tries to sneak out during the night, but he catches her and gets pissed.
it just
he spends most of the book thinking about women and being really, really angry that they're trying to seduce him (even while asleep!!) and then he assaults a woman, drags her to his home against her will, locks her in his bedroom and just the ENTIRE BOOK is making a great big huge point about how this man hates all women because they're all disgusting temptresses who are an insult to his existence etc etc.
I don't know about anyone else who read it, but I got extremely uncomfortable "STRANGER DANGER this person wants to kidnap me and lock me in his basement and then cut off my head" vibes from the author while reading the book.
Moons of Skyrim, Follower comments, Oblivion, mods, Curing vampirism
Anonymous asked skyrimconfessions:
In response to the confession about Nirn's moons; Secunda and Masser are actually other planes of existence, but the mortal mind can only percieve them as spheres, so they look like moons. (Also, technically Secunda [the small grey one] actually orbits Masser, not Nirn.)
gamerboy385 asked skyrimconfessions:
Fun fact: The planets (moons included) are the gods and the planes of the gods, which is the same thing. That they appear as spherical heavenly bodies is a visual phenomena caused by mortal mental stress. Since each plane(t) is an infinite mass of infinite size, as yet surrounded by the Void of Oblivion, the mortal eye registers them as bubbles within a space. Basically, it's the mortal mind going "Ehhh, fuck it." and then it replaces all that stuff with the moons. That's why there are no tides.
Wow, this is really interesting, I didn't know this! I hope the original confession maker sees this too. Thanks to both of you for the information :)

I'm so happy you're back posting, I've been missing you :)
Thank you so much! I personally love this blog and it's great other people love it too! And we're trying to be as active as possible, most of us just have a bunch of other priorities on our schedules as well. E.g. personally I have two jobs and uni to go to. But Taylor has been helping a lot lately, so big thanks go to her :)

i really really love skyrim, but i don't have the money for a computer that would do it justice (i play on xbox now). i was thinking about getting oblivion because my computer could handle it. was just wondering, how do the games compare? if i love skyrim, will i like oblivion as well? skyrim is the first elder scrolls game i've played :) thanks! ^_^
I personally loved and love Oblivion, it was the first Elder Scrolls game I played. I think it might even be better than Skyrim plot-wise, but of course the graphics might shock you as a Skyrim player. (Also level upping and menus are really different, but you get used to those). But there are a lot of mods available to bring Oblivion slightly up to date, so personally I would totally recommend it! Shivering Isles is a cool get too, if you decide to get Oblivion. All in all it's a wonderful game, even though it might be considered a little dated now :)

I'm having problems for play Skyrim with mods (I'm not able). I try to start with skse but when screen gets black and it's going to start, then closes suddently, the same with the normal launcher. Thank you for your help.
Did you install the mods manually or using the nexus manager? Have you tried deleting them and re-installing them? Maybe you did something wrong during the installation process.. Did you put Enablefileselection to 1 instead of 0? Please specify so we can find out what's wrong!

i became a vampire i suppose when i was trapped by Malk bal. i hate being a vampire and Serana never wants to talk about her thoughts on curing it. what do i do and where do i go to cure this?!!
You can either cure vampirism by becoming a werewolf through the companions quest or asking the bartenders for rumours and they should guide you to Falion in Morthal who can cure you!
