yo sidebar i'd love to know what books you like o:! reading isnt something i'm huge into only cause i never know what to check out but always WANT to have as an option yknow
its been a LONG TIME and I'm trying to get back into it!!! so mostly I have recommendations from people who’ve recommended stuff to MY tastes but here's a few on my list rn!
I like fantasy/mystery/horror the most in terms of fiction. Nonfiction is usually Buddhism or Learning To Write related dflkgmdlkg. Though I have a niche interest in old analog pop culture stuff! (info about non-digital music, OLLLD computer games, etc! So at least one of the ones I recommend might not be for everyone.)
Bolded are what I’ve read enough to be able to recommend so far!
House of Leaves (Reality-breaking horror)
Series of Unfortunate Events (childhood classic)
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (Scifi)
Annihilation (Scifi)
Sharp Objects (mystery)
Meddling Kids (mystery)
The Northern Caves by Nostalgebraist on AO3 (original mystery/horror fiction)
I’ll Be Gone In the Dark (True Crime story about the author who posthumously helped catch the Golden State Killer)
Terrible Old Games You’ve Probably Never Heard Of (by Stuart Ashen. Talks about really old CRT computer games that are all comically bad. Not bolded only because I know it’s likely niche, despite Ashens being relatively well-known online)
On Writing and Worldbuilding by Timmothy Hickson
MTMTE/Lost Light (Comic. It’s completed now so you don’t have to worry about waiting for a new issue. Even if you’ve never been a TF fan I still recommend giving it a glance if you love sci-fi and good character building.)
Paperbacks from Hell (A history of the amazing, grisly pulp horror books of the 70′s and 80′s. SUPER excited to finally read it!)
Also a lot of Buddhism stuff but IDK if people would specifically want that, lol

tua being mother of the fog 👀👀
LOL ok so for context... tua is technically a figure of legend/folklore character in a literal sense. but its never confirmed or denied bc its not.. immediately obvious. like if you started looking at all the evidence — high rad resistance, she’s a natural sailor, she never encounters bad weather at sea/on the island, shes somehow unkillable (prescott, namely!) and most radioactive denizens of far harbor dont fuck w her for some reason — its obvious there’s something going on there... but no one really ever pieces it together!! tua also doesnt care to believe it and its never directly challenged, so theres no one moment of confirmed godhood. this is fun bc the ultimate question becomes whether tua is a folklore character or if she is just Like that.
meanwhile the children of atom identify her as the Actual mother of the fog — and tua blows it off bc again she doesnt believe in that shit — but all things considered she actually is!
