I recently went to a Gamerdisco event in London, co-hosted by Kotaku! Most of the fun to be had came in the form of various video games across the floor, including titles like Pacman, Nidhogg, and a SNES Super Mario competition. It was a lot of fun!
One of the games I enjoyed was Accelerunner, which was, according to their website, created in just 12 hours! To put it simply, you attach a smartphone to your arm which can connect wirelessly to Accelerunner. The smartphone functions sort of like a wiimote with a screen in that when you run and jump, the character on the screen runs and jumps with you!
I played as one of the Nidhogg runners.
You even get to find out the amount of calories burned once you've finished. For someone as lazy as me, it was great to have fun having a bit of a workout, and even better competing with friends!
I also played Mega Coin Squad ( megacoinsquad ), by Big Pixel Studios. The first thing I noticed about it was how it looks - big and bright! It has a fun pixellated look going for it, and uses bright colours to draw you in. As for what it is..? Well, Steam describes it as a 'manic 2D platformer', and they're not wrong. Check out the trailer here:
I only got to try out the multiplayer mode, but the general concept was the same as the single player mode as far as I can tell: get more coins than your opponents. It's incredibly fast paced, which I liked, and uses fun concepts like the piggy bank you can see in the trailer, and the different weapons you can get as the game goes on. It reminded me a little of Battleblock Theater, but a lot more hectic and fun to look at. I'd love to try the single player campaign, or get some friends together and have another go at multiplayer!
